@louisianablue: Mine came out to be $4.50/slice. Personally cake was a priority for me so I didnt mind paying that..plus the cakes that were cheaper that I tried were nearly inedible. If cake doesnt matter have you considered cupcakes?
Our cake was $2.50 a slice, and it was delicious! We thought so, and tons of our guests told us so. We just looked *really* hard to find that hidden gem. Like you, all of the other places we looked at charged $3.50-$5.00 a slice.
Cake also wasn't our biggest priority. We wanted it to look nice and taste good. It was beautiful and delicious and so affordable, so we were happy!
we paid $610 for 270 people. We had a 3 tier cake with sheet cakes in the kitchen for cutting to make it cheaper...so a little over $2/slice
$4 a slice is how much our cake cost. we had to search high and low to find this baker. She has a small local bakery and her prices were much better than anything we had heard. Most places quoted us $6 per slice or more. Her cake was delicious and well made. it was creamy and rich without being too sweet and she didnt use fondant. A lot of people commented on how yummy the cake was, I'm glad I went with a local bakery
ETA: her slices were huge, we only ordered a cake to feed 75 ppl but it was enough to feed all out guests {175 people} plus we kept the top tier in our freezer
Ours are between 7.50 and 13.00 per slice! And I actually do remember the cake at the weddings I have been to! BUT I am a cake person. I love cake. We recently went to a wedding and when the whole table sat to eat cake everyone was like "OMG best cake ever, taking some home, yadda yadda" But in reality it's up to you. If you don't really care about cake, then cut corners. It's what's most important to you. Actually, even though our cake is kinda on the pricey side, I have been told by someone else that had the same cake, that it wasn't the greatest!! It's really just because of the price of the area.
Why not just get some cheesecakes from the cheesecake factory, and then invest in cute cake toppers and a nice cake stand? Would be more delicious anyways..
Wow. I offically love small town life... my cupcakes are $1.50 a piece. Mine is from a girl who just does this on the side.
We're doing cupcakes. They're $37.50/dozen, so about $3/each. We're getting 13 dozen, since the company has a policy where if you order 12 dozen, the 13th is free. So we're getting 156 cupcakes for $450.
We paid $410 for 80 people, so it was like $5 a slice. But we kept the top layer so the numbers don't add up too well... When I originally looked into my shop it was $4 a slice which is cheap for my area.
@unixfairy: are you serious? Is it decorated with like, gold flakes or something?
If wwe go with the only girl who got back to me with a quote it would be $3 a slice for a 3 tiered. We will be using sheet cake for the rest of the guests however.
@joy2011: No it is the Four Seasons but they said they would do whatever we like so Gold flakes might be possible :) It d*** well better look professional for that price though - their cutting fee is as high as some of the cake prices here so we will most likely have it made in house
Totally depends on where you are located as prices vary incredibly due to location. The second factor is how simple or intricate a design is. Shop around to see who had the best deal on the best tasting cake. Be aware that the same cake/design will cost different prices even in the same town, depending on where you go since there is no set in stone pricerange anywhere.
My cake was included in booking my venue (who also does the catering) - so the cost is built into the price pp. I thought that was kind of a normal thing but I guess not! Though that is just for a cake with buttercream icing. If we wanted fondant (which we don't) it would be an extra $3/slice.
Ours is costing us $2.75 per slice. We are doing 4 tiers for $440. It's a small business run out of a home but the quality is amazing. The owner is awesome and even offered me a part time job making cake toppers.
9.75 a slice, and it was the best cake I've ever had in my life. Totally worth every penny!
The cake prices I found in my area started at $6/slice. Our cake is coming out to be a little under $9/slice.

I'm trying to decide if it is worth hiring a fancier vendor to make my wedding cake. Originally I hired a local bakery, who bakes a ton of wedding cakes. The cakes are not bad, well decorated, just not spectacular and only run $2.50/slice.
My planner was trying to talk me out of hiring them, because in her experience the cake has been kind of dry. I've called a number of other vendors in the area and the average price is $4-6/slice. It will almost double the cost that I was planning to spend. Is it worth it? FWIW, I don't remember the cake at any wedding I've ever been to.
