    Hello Bees

I'm having cake issues.  My FI has celiacs, i.e. he can't have anything containing gluten...which means no regular wedding cake.  I've called around to several bakeries checking to see if 1) they bake gluten-free cakes & 2) how much they cost.  Everyone is quoting me prices that aren't in my budget even with about 30 people coming to the wedding.

Ideas?  I could make my own small cake and do individual dessert for guests, but I really want a wedding cake.  I don't know what to do HELP!!!

could you do a big cake for all the guests and just have the top be gluten free? or get a grooms cake gluten free?

Does cheesecake have gluten in it?

    or...

I would consider doing cupcakes! You can have your own special (expensive) gluten free cupcakes and then everyone else could have the regular ones!

    or...

Skip cupcakes and go with a dessert buffet that has more options with some gluten free options.

We've talked about having a seperate gf cake, and doing a big wedding cake for all of the guests.  I'm still not sure.

Cheesecake does contain gluten (the crust). :(  Dessert buffet sounds great!

Do you have a Whole Foods near you? I work at the Whole Foods in Austin and we make gluten free wedding cakes. A cake to feed your guests would cost around $70. Check it out!

I tried Whole Foods, they were first on my list, but sadly they don't make gf wedding cakes.  They told me they don't have the proper facilities, and all of the gf stuff they have in the bakery is shipped in. :(  I tried the Santa Fe store and both in ABQ.  I LOVE the store in Austin!  It's awesome!

Have you thought about the groom's cake tradition?

Maybe you could get your dream wedding cake, and then get him a separate groom's cake that's gluten-free?  That way, he's not missing out on the fun dessert action.  To save money, you could make the groom's cake--as you probably know, there are tons of yummy GF cake recipes and cake mixes out there!  Best of luck!

Oops, just saw that Vistagirl suggested the groom's cake idea!  Sorry for the repeat suggestion. : )

Oh- so I know that this thread is old but my mom use to make cheesecake all the time without the crust and it was gluten free.  I loved it!  I still don't eat crust on cheesecake now that I am out of the house (my brother, sister, and dad are celiac).
