We are going for our cake tasting next week and need to pick a couple of options to try – we will also be having a dessert table with various desserts, most of which will be chocolate. Our bakery only allows for one flavor.
What do you think of these flavors?
- White cake, lemon butter cream and raspberry filling
- Strawberry shortcake – white cake, bavarian cream and fresh strawberries
- Chocolate covered strawberry – white or chocolate cake, fresh strawberries and fudge
- Black forest cherry – white or chocolate cake, cherries and fudge
Should we keep it a chocolateless cake due to having other chocolate desserts?

If most of your other desserts are chocolate, I would actually suggest staying away from chocolate or anything with chocolate. There are actually a surprising number of people who don’t like chocolate or who have sensitivities to it. Even if you guys love it, you’re hosting the reception for your guests, so it’s probably a good idea to give them more options.
Even if you think that your guests will all love it, be cautious if you have older guests. Turns out that food allergies aren’t uncommon to develop even after people have been eating a food most of their lives. It happened to my mom with shellfish, and she also developed some kind of sensitivity to chocolate after years of loving it. Now she gets very ill if she has it. So yeah, options that aren’t chocolate are good.

I am a complete 100% chocoholic. I can’t eat enough of the stuff, and would happily lie naked in a chocolate fountain if ever given the opportunity. That being said, I love the idea of having a non-chocolate cake with all the other chocolate desserts. The lemon AND the strawberry shortcake’s both made me drool, so I don’t think you could go wrong with either!
PS – Can I come to your wedding for dessert????? LOL
