Anytime you want. Some bakers fill their books right away if they are good so you want to make sure they are available on your date, which means getting it taken care of as soon as you can. However, don’t book anyone until you have tasted them first. Also, don’t settle for the first baker you see.

I would say a few months before the wedding like around 4 months before.

We’re going ahead and ordering the cake this week.  We’re just over 6 months out.  The baker who we want will only do a limited number of cakes — like one wedding per day, so I wanted to make sure we locked her in now.

We did ours with three months to go.  I really wanted to do it sooner but didn’t have the chance.  I also felt like I was late since many wedding checklists have cake selection/order at the 4 month before the wedding mark.
