This wasn't a mean blog that I read, it was about someone else's cake topper. Have you tried other Etsy dealers? Maybe even one that doesn't already have pugs in their previous work, but has done other fabulous designs.
Yea the blog made me sad because she made someone else a cake topper but has been ignoring the request I gave her in January.
The other etsy dealers with similar figurines don't have the same quality to them.
well she's got a live traffic feed, so she's about to find out all about this posting...
HA! oh well, my emails haven't gotten her to commit so I doubt this will either.
Has anyone worked with polymer clay before?
Her work is incredible! I can see why you're bummed :)
Perhaps she's totally busy & isn't accepting any more custom requests?? I could see how she'd book up fast...
Ah, a fellow March bride... Hey, if you are going to pick another Etsy designer for a cake topper, you should probably figure that out in the next couple weeks and get it formalized one way or the other.
We placed our order about 2 weeks ago for custom topper and it won't be ready until January.
At MissACS yay March! Yea... thus my frustration. I will proabbly have to pull a favor or make it myself.
@ Recessionista - I contacted her right after our engagement. She said she would do it... I checked in a few times and she got back to me in July and said since I had asked before, no problem. She convo'd me about it a little then dropped off till Sept. Last I heard was Sept 20 "No prob. I'll get started :~)" No replies to my messages since then.
I just need to give up, don't I? Don't you hate it when something you envision doesn't work out for you?
Holy crap!!! That stamp cake topper is amazing!!
Maybe she thinks she has plenty of time, since your wedding is in March? Hopefully she'll respond soon because yeah - her work is amazing. :)
Send her another email, if you haven't already. Do you have a phone number or any other contact information, maybe in her email signature? Leave a comment on her blog? Does she Twitter - try Twittering at her.
Some people just aren't good with email..
I agree with other posters that maybe she just hasn't started it yet because the wedding isn't until March...although her lack of responding to your repeated messages would scare me off from working with her, great toppers or no.
Maybe contact her one last time and let her know that if you don't hear back you are going to look at other options, as you have already been waiting far too long.
I've had the same problem with a few Etsy sellers and it is frustrating! I'm not sure why they tell you they'll be happy to do custom designs, then take forever to get back to you. I've done the Alchemy too and have sent PM's to a few telling them I'd prefer not to leave feedback for them. I'd hate to ruin their businesses, since maybe I'm expecting them to be as punctual as I am!
Yea I've sent a bunch of messages and mentioned I felt bad like I was bothering her... but then I'm like wait, I'm paying you... I really need to stop getting my heart set on certain things. I was an art minor... I can make these, right? LOL
And no... no contact besides through etsy.
Eww Not cool on her behalf but maybe she really is busy and maybe really is planning on getting your very special topper done in time. But, are you willing to risk it? Maybe continue discussions (or lack there of) with her but also start looking elsewhere and/or start doing it on your own and then you have a back up plan.
Also, in your next email, maybe just say, look, if you don't contact me by xx/xx/xxxx then I am moving on to other options. I love your work but I can't risk not having you create my product in time.
Last time I contacted her (aug or sept) saying that this is my last message and I will no longer be wanting it. She then got back to me (hadn't responded to a few etsy messages) saying "whoops!" and that she'd do it. We convo'd back and forth a tiny bit then I stopped hearing. Mid to late October I wrote "checking in on it for the last time" and haven't heard.
I think I have my answer. I feel like I've done all I can do without bugging her so much she hates me... I don't know if I'd like me much right now.
Aww, thats too bad :(
I know you said other etsy sellers just didn't do it for you, but I think these are adorable! http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29697459&ref=sr_gallery_8&&ga_search_query=pug+cake+topper&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=&order=date_desc&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title
maybe if you talked to her, she could make them look a little more realistic if that's your style?
((HUGS)) I agree maybe you are in queue or something like that because she has so many orders.
Good luck! It's definitely amazing -- I really hope it gets sorted out.
I know this isn't the advice you were looking for as this post is about dealing with a bad vendor, but I'll throw my two cents in anyway. Don't forget to remember the big picture. While cake toppers are so much fun and we can get really into personalizing them, I wouldn't stress too much about getting the perfect one.
It definitely stinks if you saw what you really like but can't have it, but this is one of the those small details that only you will scrutinize. If you can settle for a different, albeit inferior, pug cake topper, I would go for it and put your energy elsewhere. I wanted to include my dog in something, so I made custom stamps for the invitation with his photo on them. Just remember, don't sweat the small stuff. If you hit a bump in the road, just walk around it!
Sorry that it hasn't worked out for you. May i suggest the seller that is making my cake topper?! She is our a model of us along with our dog. If you lookat her website, you can see that she does make animals. She is super nice. I haven't received the topper yet, so I can't say how th efinal product is. However, I have a good feeling about her!

She also has a page one etsy.

I've posted before about how I was going to have my cake topper made by an etsy vendor who had done a sculpture of my pug. I literally messaged her the day we got engaged! But she became MIA and I told her I was done and then posted about my vendor letdown with her, and ideas for other cake toppers. Right after that though, she said she would start working on it. We negotiated price and she said she was on it... have't heard from her since (and don't worry, payment was upon completion so she hasn't gotten a dime.)
I messaged her a few more times on etsy... nada. The thing is... it was my first wedding related "want" and nothing else is comparable. At all. Any other etsy vendor I feel makes kind of cruddy, non-realistic looking pugs. I don't know what to do! I could try on my own but I've NEVER worked with polymer clay before.
To make matters worse, she posted this on her blog in September... why does she hate meeeee?
Any suggestions/thoughts? Either on dealing with her or alternatives?
