Back story: My mom gave me a bride/groom ornament in 2004, way before I met my fiance, for Christmas. Red hair bride (me) and dark haired groom. On the bottom is had my name + _______? Not a big deal, just everyone got an ornament that year and I was visiting so could of been a last minute grab. I keep everything, and kept this ever since.
The Christmas before we were engaged, My BF (FI now), dropped it while packing up decor and the groom’s head broke off. I joked it was a sign at the time. He incorperated it into proposal to throw me off with weight of gift and to show he fixed it and gave it back to me. So it is a part of our story too and has been with us every Christmas, good thing he has dark hair…lol.
So fast forward to today and deciding on wedding cakes, I really have always wanted a bride and groom on top of the cake without being “80’s”, vintage is ok but I fear others opinions on the tackiness of it possibly. I have searched the internet for what I want and nothing is exact without going the custom route which I think is too much $$$. Fiance thinks we should use the ornament. I kinda think we should use it too since my search has not been as easy as I thought and it will add to the ornaments history with me/us.
What do you think of it? Assuming you do not know the back story and just saw a pic of my cake. I think our small wedding will have read about our proposal, Fiance wrote out our proposal story from his point of view on our wedding website so assuming they read it…. I am probably overthinking this but what do you bees think?
Also, this is the type of cake I am going for:

@soinlove79: It seems to be really special to you and it has a special place in your proposal and your story together. I think it would be a really cute idea to use it as your cake topper. To be honest, I think you’re overthinking it… and besides, it’s your cake and that ornament is special to you and your FH, go with it!

I agree with the PP, don’t overthink it!
He fixed it for you and your mom gave it to you… you can’t really ask for a more special cake topper!! Plus, one less thing you have to pay for!!!
I think it would look great with your cake. To hell if people think it’s tacky. You and you FI love it and that’s all that really matters.

@Nikkimcq: Thanks, yes I have looked everywhere….sometimes I loathe the internet with all of its endless possibilities…lol. I really like the ones with actual material on it for dress and veil and yet I just cant find the right one for us without spending so much.

Thanks, I really try not to care about what others think but when it comes down to it, I am totally a people pleaser.
I am definitely liking the not paying for anything else part:)

For those who don’t know the story it looks cute, very much like a normal cake topper. I would never guess it’s a Christmas ornament. When you know the story its extra cute, I think it’s a perfect choice.
Plus you’ll get to put your cake topper on your tree every year. Most people put theirs in a closet and never look at it again.

I think it would be a great idea! I love the story but even just picturing it on the cake without knowing the story, I think it’s cute.

@soinlove79: It would look weird with my cake but I think it looks PERFECT with your cake. I believe it “matches” in a way. I really like it!

Thanks Bees for your responses 🙂 It is so funny how I overthink every step of this wedding. Planning is fun and exhausting at the same time.
