I think we are just having flowers. I can't find anything else I like a whole lot, although I am pretty taken with the needle-felted birds. I did like a picture I saw of a topper with a couple in formal wear on a bicycle (not the little one from France, a larger one) but can't find it for sale and FI seems to think it is silly anyway.
We are using these bride and groom black bears - http://www.camelotbears.com/bears/black-bears/bearfoots_wedding_couple.html
Our first vacation together was in Tennessee and the entire trip revolved around my goal of seeing black bears in the wild. When I saw them I knew they were perfect. But before I found those I was going with just flowers.
We're doing mini-us's by Nicole Clark.
Can't wait to see how we look in polyclay form.
The mii cake topper is hilarious. A little expensive - but isn't everything?
I'm thinking about doing a willow tree angel figurine that I received as an engagement gift. I discovered that in the past month we've been engaged it has been made into a cake topper! Yay:)
If not the willow tree, a monogram W. I haven't seen a W that "looks like me" yet. Probably because I've always been a P...
in keeping with the baseball theme for the reception, we're doing bobbleheads of us...
I ordered my cake topper from Toppers with Glitz. We are getting married at the Jersey shore so obviously my wedding has a beachy feel. I chose seahorses as part of our theme since they mate for life. I've used them throughout different elements of my wedding. I had Toppers design a cake topper in our colors brown/blue and of two seahorses and our last name initial. I really love the way it turned out.
link didn't work :e(
we're using my grandparents topper from the 40's... its sooo freakin cute
I bought a cake topper before I had an idea of a cake. Well, once I had my cake in mind, the topper I bought just didn't seem to fit. Then I decided to go with three red roses...it was cheap and it looked nice with our chocolate cake.
We weren't sure what to do because so many of the bride/groom fingures didn't fit us. In the end, my mom found one that was totally my husband in style- it's kind of modern in that it's all white (like porcelin) with no specific features... just a bride and groom holding each other. We had it surrounded with flowers and flowers cascading down the side of the cake.
We're using a small LLadro sculpture called "A Kiss to Remember". We will have it as a keepsake after the wedding. I got it on eBay for less than half the retail price.
Oh - I never thought about the idea of a topper and flowers, for some reason. I guess as long as the topper is tall enough, or somehow sat up in the flowers a ways, it would be great! Back to the search...
We ordered custom bobble heads from whoopass enterprises!
It ended up being one of the most sentimental things on our wedding!
Suzanno- Yeah, using both the topper and flowers worked well for us. The bride and groom were tall enough that the flowers just covered the very base of the topper.
I think we're just doing a big letter S - but then again that's not final either.
We're probably just going to do a monogram/last name initial cake topper. There are so many cute options now that I can't decide! Those Mii toppers are hilarious.
Our cake topper was actually the very first thing I found for the wedding, and it's inspired just about everything else.
It's a Lladro figurine called The Happiest Day. http://www.lladro.com/figurines/01008029-THE_HAPPIEST_DAY/
It's also super expensive, but for something that would mean so much to me, it's worth it. We'll cut corners somewhere else to make up for it.
And after the wedding, we can display it. I'm sure it will look gorgeous between the Frank Beamer bobblehead and the glass pineapple currently on the shelf. ![]()
My FI is so excited about the idea of a mini-us, so we're going with that. Apparently it's *his* wedding too!! I found an online site that let's us mix and match the couple. I kind of want to order a little dog and cat too ...! Somehow I think that idea will get boycotted though (=
I'm DIY my topper. I have a mini oasis that will hold the wonderful pewter pixies representing me and my FI that my FMIL brought back to the States from Ireland. They will sit in front of the flowers on the mini oasis and I'm DIY a Swarovski AB crystal cursive H. It has 3 rows of crystals to make it approximately an inch wide and about 4 inches tall and will be placed within the flowers on top.
Afterwards, the pixies will go back to their place of honor on our mantle and our Swarovski "H" will be turned into a magnet we can use for our notes to eachother on our fridge. :)

So, how does everyone decide what they want on top of their cake?
I found this on another website that I thought was hilarious and I just had to share. You can have your Mii turned into a cake topper!!
