We did a cutting cake and some cupcakes. We anticipated around 20-25 people but had about 16 at the reception. We purposely got a lot of cupcakes because my husband wanted to take them home after the wedding.
Sorry this pic is huge, but this was my cake for 70 people - we had a TON left over...I would probably go with a 2 tier cake for the number of guests you're having unless you like the 3 tier look. I only paid 100 for my cake, so it was worth it for the 3 tier because I liked the look over a 2 tier.
mandb122 - I love your cake and cupcakes!! Any idea how many inches across that cake is? Also, did you buy that stand? I love the idea of a cake sitting atop some cupcakes.
We had about 40 guests, and did a cake buffet. I ordered probably twice as much cake as needed, but nobody was disappointed eating the leftovers...
We had petit fours--way cheaper than buying a cake, and just as delicious. Everyone loved them and guests were taking the extras home!
65 guests. We had some of the bottom tier left, but not a ton. I think we had 14, 10 and 6 inch tiers.
This is the picture taken by my sister for our cake (this is not the cake table). It's for 60 people and we have left over as well.
My wedding will have about 30-40 people I believe. This cake feeds a bit more than that though, although it's the smallest my venue offers.
We skipped the cake in favor of fruit, imported cheeses, and petit fours for 32 people. It was delicious!
@runschicago: I'm so sorry it took me so long to reply, we were away for Thanksgiving! The little cake is six inches across and we actually rented the stands but they have them that you can buy at different places.
We had 35 guests and all these cheesecakes plus a birthday cake for my nephew. Somehow we managed!
We had 70 guests. Our cake was suppose to feed 75, but I think it was a little small (the 3 white tiers, we saved the top one). We also had 6 pies. We had less than a pie left and maybe like 4-6 slices of cake left.
I know this is a little more than what you were asking but we had 100 guests and here is our cake (we saved the top and had one sheet cake also, just in case, but never even cut into it):
Here's mine. I totally cheated tho, cos I served this, which was red velvet, plus a sheet cake of a different flavor and there was a ton left over. There were about 80 people, total, including the wedding party/pastor.
I think we'll probably have something like this for about 30-40 people. We'll also have about 6 other desserts including pies, tiramisu, creme brulee, etc.
Our venue is making the cake... it will have real flowers instead of the frosting ones. If you search for 2-tiers wedding cakes, you can get a lot of ideas for smaller weddings.
@microscope: I LOVE this cake as well. I am curious how you worked out a two layer cake with this design as I would need a minimum of three.
@Treejewel19: The cake hasn't been made yet :-) I bet you could make 3 tiers work. The second pic below might work for 3 tiers (with the hydrangea dome-like one as the top one tier) 
We had this cake for 60 guests. 60 cup cakes and the cake we took home to eat on our 1 year anniversary, which we forgot to do, only remembered tonight (week later) so we ate a slice each tonight.
Everyone has such awesome designs, it kind of makes me wanna pick a new one.

Hi Ladies,
I need some inspiration for a cake for my small wedding of 40-50 peeps. Post pics of your cakes from weddings of 75 or less and tell how many guests you had.
