hi,
we are using little laura's sweets -- who my friend used. She is in sausalito and has the YUMMIEST cup cakes and cake. She makes her own almond roca for the almond roca cup cakes and is great to work with and SOOO affordable it almost seems wrong.

Tale fo Two Truffles is awesome! VERY affordable and she will make anything you want. Her truffles are to die for, the Oreo ones in particular are great. Here's her link, we used her for our wedding and I referred her to another bride who used and was really happy with Nikki as well. :)

Thanks to you our cake search has gotten a much-needed boost - I've already got responses from Little Laura and Forget-Me-Not. Woo hoo!
Check out Jen's Cakes from Los Gatos. They do business all over the bay and their cakes are yummy and not expensive for the Bay Area. They start at $5 a slice. At least go in for a complimentary tasting..It's good! :)
We are using Laurie Lucov, she is a fantastic woman with an amazing talent. She was very helpful and wanted to make sure every deatail was just what we wanted. Her cakes and fillings and frostings were delicious. I highly reccomend her! She can work with any budget. http://www.laurielucovweddingcakes.com/ Good Luck!
Oooh, I second Laurie Lucov. She uses locally produced ingredients (she's picking the strawberries for our cake the morning of the wedding!) and her cake is sooooo good!
Julie Durkee of Torino baking in Berkeley is doing our cupcakes and she did my friend's wedding cake. Her cakes are sooo yummy and she's pretty reasonably priced too!

I'm always a big fan of "Here Comes the Guide" as a San Francisco resource for quality vendors: www.herecomestheguide.com
if you are north bay then you've got perfect endings and http://www.fleurdelisacakes.com
Fleur de Lisa is AMAZING!!! She does incredible dessert buffets and the most amazing cakes. She's definitely one of the top cake designers in the industry.
For San Francisco there is Shinmin at I Dream of Cake. A total artist. Her work is truly art. amazing stuff. Her studio is one of the most beautiful cake studios you will ever see. totally unpredictable and not kitchy at all.
Thank you all! We've met with the Cakemaker and he's the front-runner so far, though we've got two tastings left.
Your advice and suggestions are greatly appreicated!

I've been impressed with everyone's generousity in posting ideas and help on the boards - hopefully, the hive can help with this one as well...
Does anyone have a recommendation for cakes in either the north bay or east bay (SF Bay area)? We're getting married in the north bay and would like something fairly local. We're having a small wedding and may have other dessert options, so something small or an assortment of top-notch cakes would be great (doesn't have to be a stacked confection).
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
