So I signed up for an apointment with the Wedding Cake Shoppe at a recent wedding show, and even after I emailed to confirm our appointment never heard back from them - really disapointed and really unimpressed with their lack of customer service.

I'm getting married near Peterborough in Oct. 2009, but live in the west GTA - any great bakery recommendations? We're particularly looking for a tower of cupcakes.

We had a cupcake tower done by the Sugar Chalet in Oshawa this past August.  They were wonderful there!  Carol, one of the owners, went through a bunch of pictures with me, and then gave me a bunch of sample cupcakes to take home to test.  So yummy!! They were delivered and decorated exactly as I specified, and they didn't cost that much either.  I would highly suggest them to anyone looking for a cake ro cupcakes!  Everyone at my wedding said they were delicious, and they freeze well too, for a first-anniversary treat!

May i suggest "The cupcakery" on St. Clair, in Toronto?

They have the absolute best tasting cakes (IMHO), like ever!
I contacted them for prices and if Im not mistaken they are $2/each.

    Here is the website:

    Good luck!

Glad you found a place!  I've been searching for a cake maker in Toronto too.  The customer service has been so poor with very few returning emails/phone calls.  I also tried The Wedding Cake Shoppe.  When I started emailing with one of the owners she was very responsive.  I went in for a tasting, we spoke about ideas, etc.  She was supposed to send me a contract, which I never received.  I emailed and tried calling several times since we've met to try to finalize things. All I want to do is send them my deposit!!!  This must be a good business to be in if you can afford to ignore potential customers like this.  After weeks of frustration, I've decided to cut my losses and move on...

to bride, I am not sure when is your wedding, but you can try Noisette (they are located in Markham), Hannah is the nicest person I know and their cake is to die for.  The only draw back is they only do 3 wedding cake per weekend, so if your wedding is coming up soon, they might already be booked.

I also had some issues with the Wedding Cake Shoppe.  I'm going to go with some cupcakes as well as a sweet table from Something Sweet Designs.  I will probably bend and just get a cute little cake for us to cut and have served to the head table only.  Was thinking of using Cakestar in Scarborough.

@marythebride2011: I used The Wedding Cake Shoppe and would give them 4/5. The flavours were a bit hit and miss when we bought more to keep trying out all the different ones they offered. We kept little rating page, and the odd time we accidentally bought one we'd tried before, we'd look and see that we had given it 2/5 but this time that we had it we LOVED the flavour. It was a little odd. However, I'm happy to say everything tasted delicious for the wedding! The mini cake wasn't exactly what I wanted and I was pretty disappointed in that (aesthetically, I mean, it tasted great).

We had cakes from Frangipane on our dessert buffet that were TO DIE FOR. Seriously, best cake I've ever eaten. I'd highly recommend them. In fact, I should order one for a friend's shower. Thanks for sparking my mind there ;)

ETA - Shout out to Ptown! I grew up there!

We are using Short and Sweet Cupcakes, on Old Orchard Grove (Avenue and Lawrence area).  We love their red velvet cupcakes, and if you order more than 100, they are $2 each!

Just to follow up on my previous post, I ordered a 10" cake from Frangipane for a shower I'm hosting this weekend. It's chocolate cake with salted caramel filling and a caramel buttercream and cost $80, it should feed 20+ people. She's going to decorate it in the woodlands/owl theme of the shower. The lady I spoke to was LOVELY and I'm so excited to see it when I pick it up on Saturday! I'll post photos when I get it!
