    Hi Bees,

I'm planning on doing an OOT bag for all the guests coming from out of state. I can't seem to think of any California inspired treats to put inside. Any ideas??

    THAnKS!

I can think of San Francisco ones, surprisingly (Ghiradelli chocolate, fortune cookies [actually originated in SF, I think]), but not SoCal specific! Hmm....

    Marinated artichoke hearts

Napa Valley Wine for the vino lovers, Anchor Steam or Speakeasy brews for the beer connoisseurs

    Dried Figs

    Sourdough Bread

...just a few ideas, good luck!

I'm working on this for mine right now, actually! I'm focusing more on local foods so that might be a place to start, but so far I've got the following thoughts:

    - Chocolate (lots of chocolate makers in the Bay Area; probably in SoCal too, or See's)
    - Small bottles of CA wine
    - CA pistachios (or, honestly, CA anything---figs, oranges, raisins, dates, anything in season at the farmers' market, etc.)
    - Fortune cookies (invented in either LA or SF depending on which inventor you believe, and the fortune cookie machine was invented in Oakland)
    - Gift certificates to local snack shops near the hotel that sell local food, if applicable

    Would love other ideas, too!

That's tough! I'm from Southern California and I'm kind of pulling a blank.....i'm trying to think of foods i eat at the beach, but besides coneys and other typical boardwalk food, i got nothin'! Oo, The Hat is good, lol.

What about sunmaid raisins? isn't there something about california raisins? or is it california cheese? hmmm.wine and cheese is a pretty classic california combination. But I'd say go to the farmers market like someone suggested above, and just buy things MADE in california. I'd love to have a sweet little homemade beach scented (or orange? i lived in orange county and would find that funny!) basket with all homemade california goodies.

anything from trader joe's! cat cookies (although you have to bag them into smaller quantities), penguin gummies, chocolate truffles, chocolate-covered blueberries, beef/turkey/buffalo jerky, kettle-corn popcorn, dried fruit (especially the mangos), mixed nuts, assortment of sparkling ciders, etc... so much yummy stuff.

the farmer's market suggestion is also a good one. i remember plums were so fabulous late last summer.

if you're considering perishable stuff like fruit, maybe you'd also consider sprinkles cupcakes? or diddy riese cookies?

    Hmm...my post didn't show up! : (

I said avocados...although they probably wouldn't work in an OOT bag! : )

    Definitely Ghirardelli!

And SoCal beers: Karl Strauss, Stone, Ballast Point

See's Candy!  Sprinkles cupcakes! In and Out Burger (maybe those can be gift cards, hee hee)

Also, California raisins! And bread from La Brea Bakery...

    :-)

Oh, another one I considered: circus animal Mother's cookies (which aren't actually made in California anymore, but are still hard to get in other parts of the country, so they could be fun/kitschy).

The beer idea is a great one, too---I'll definitely add that to ours!

fizzycolors    October 2, 2010   California is home, but the wedding is in Las Vegas!

A map to the nearest In-N-Out =)  I can't think of a single out of town person that has visited here in California that didn't think that was an essential part of their trip out here.

Perhaps an orange or two and a handful of salt water taffy (not a Cali specific thing, but very boardwalk/oceany). Ghiradelli! Yummy.
