My FI and I have just moved to LA and are saving money for our full blown honeymoon.  So in the mean time we want to do a minimoon somewhere nearby to LA. Does anyone know of a fantastic place to stay that is maybe a hidden gem adn doesn't cost an arm and a leg?  A la, if money weren't a factor, we'd stay here:

We want to have a hot tub, and a view... and not spend more than $300 a night.

    Suggestions please!!

I I would recommend a bed and breakfast in Santa Barbara that we went to that was divine! It's called the Simpson House Inn. It was so adorable and quaint. It is within walking distance to the main street... Just a drive to the beach...

Another idea is to take a drive up the coast of california and just stop at any cute il town you come upon. There are some gorgeous locations to stay at with a cliff ocean view.

Although Las Vegas isn't in CA...it's driving distance.  about 4 hours.  They have great dining and entertainment options.   You can go online and find just what your looking for and great rates avail Sun - Thurs.

Otherwise, there are nice B&B's and resort style hotels in and around San Diego.  about 2 hour drive.

Pachenga Spa and Casino Or Morengo Spa and Casino??? They're nearby.         (spelling might be incorrect)

Maybe drive up the coast to a Winery.  That would be fun too.  San Francisco area...it's probably 6-8 hr drive?

San Diego/La Jolla is also a nice close getaway.  Solvang is also cute.  Santa Barbara hotels tend to have 3 night minimums and are pricey.  Palm Springs might be nice and relaxing as well.

I'll try to think of a hidden gem!

I was also thinking san diego area. My friend lives there and loves it. She is always uploading pictures of the beach and these awesome sunsets. I would check it out at the least.

Have you checked out the Madonna inn?  It is a little treck to the north, but a totally fun and unique hotel!!

Of course, you could always just go to Disneyland and call it a day!!  ;)

I second the D-land idea! Also san diego is great, like mrsbee said. I would recommend La Jolla as well!

If you're trying to stay closer to LA, I would also recommend Laguna Beach. If you're interested PM me and I'll tell you some great hotels and restaurants in the area.

Thanks so much! I've been looking into all those areas and they seem great.  Any specific place to stay suggestions or hidden gems?  (btw - checked out the madonna inn - so fun! But probably a bit to far to drive for the minimoon).  Quick recap of what we are looking for: Nearish to LA, $300/night max, hot tub or jacuzzi, view!

I am in the same boat! We can't go on a full blown honeymoon right now, but could really use a tiny vacation to relax.

I know it's not LA, but Coastanoa is amazing and in your price range:

    http://www.costanoa.com/site.php

They are pretty affordable, with various cabins, lodge rooms, etc. But they are also having specials now like the following:

2 Nights in a Lodge King Room

    • 2 50 minute Massages
    • 2 Full Day Bike Rentals
    • 1 Welcome bottle of Happy Camper Wine
    • 1 Coupon for 10% off any General Store Purchase

$469.00 (not including tax)  7 days a week based on availability.

I can't think of anything in LA, but Santa Barbara is always pretty. Or what about renting a Malibu/other beach beach house for a weekend?

Good luck! Let us know what you come up with, b/c I just might copy you! :)

Not from LA so I am not sure how far this is from you. I went a few years ago to Palm Springs and said at a beautiful little Inn and we had such a great time exploring Palm Springs, seeing the mini musuems and going to Joshua Tree state park. So that's my suggestion.

    Hope that helps.

Palm Springs? They have some nice hotels up there and I don't think they're very expensive. Plus, it's driving distance from LA

Catalina island is gorgeous and affordable. plus, you feel so far away from L.A. Most of the hotel rooms have jacuzzi tubs. The boat ride over is about $60/pp.
