    Hi Hive!!

I just finished my first day of the 30 day shred and loved it! I'm going to try to do it everyday this month in combination with running or taking aerobic classes (kickboxing, calorie killer) several days a week. I want to lose 10-15 lbs before May so I'm getting started early :) Plus, working out and staying healthy gives me so much more energy and is a great stress reliever!

I thought that it would help motivate me if I posted pics of my progress each week! Feel free to join in with pics of your progress!!!

I completed day two of 30 day shred today. I'm adding it to my normal routine so I'm hoping that at the very least I will at least do the dvd everyday (if I also make it to the gym, just an added bonus).

i ordered the DVD for second-day delivery, so i can do the Shred, too. i have a bunch of other fitness things on the go (yoga, "Wedding Workout," 2-mile jog). And i have 49 days before my wedding! Ayee! And: no one, repeat, no one, wants to see a photo of me in my jog bra and shorts! Zoinks!

Am I the only one who hates 30 day shred?  I am in fairly good shape but this workout hurts my shoulders..not in a good way.  I find that my shoulder joints are soo sore after.  Its from the overhead weights.

I bought the shred in August and haven't even tried it yet. I was doing a lot of ike riding and decided to save it for when the days were dark too earl and too cold for biking. Sound like October is going to be my shred month so count me in. I am planning to start once weekly together with a pilates class and a few bike rides and then move to 2-3 times weekly once the biking season is over. My goal is to lose 15 lbs before Christmas.

@MsDecember - I started with 3 lb weights but after a week, I needed 4 lb weights. It's best to have a variety, I think. You'll definitely see the 3 lb getting easier and easier - but I'd still start with it, because even at that weight, your shoulders get exhausted.

okay, did my first Shred session today. totally do-able. but, ouch! that move where you are squatting, and pressing the weights over your head at the same time? yow. difficult. (and since it was at the beginning of workout 1, i got v v scared. the rest of the workout was fine, tho.)

the Shred totally is MUCH harder that the "Wedding Workout" DVD.

Okay, I'm jumping back on the wagon tomorrow. Today is my birfday, so it's no holds barred. I'm eating carbs for the first time in four months, so no working out today!!!!

I'll report back tomorrow, which I'll consider day one, since so much time has lapsed since my last workout (almost two weeks).

Alright, I'm back from my way too long workout break. Today is day 2 of Shred and though I have done it before and done all three levels, Level 1 kicked my butt yesterday. I was sweating like you wouldn't believe. Day 2 was better, still a great workout but I am going to try and go a little harder tomorrow :) I've commited to also doing 30-45 minutes of cardio at the gym five days a week!! I WANT to reach my goal soooo sooo bad :) My plan for the Shred video is Week 1: Level 1 Week 2: Level 2, Week 3: Level 3 Week 4: a different level each day. How do you ladies plan it out? Next month, do it all over again or try out another Jillian video.

@sleepylittlesailor - that move totally kills me everytime!!! I am using 10 lb weights so I couldn't get through the whole sequence without taking a break. The shoulder presses with side lunges are also really hard for me!

@LindseyMarie52 - we are on the same day of the shred :) I am planning to do the same thing with the increase of the levels each week and also add cardio 5 times each week! What are your weight loss goals?

Happy Birthday Laylabelle!!!!! Enjoy your day :)

it's only my first day, but i liked the attitude a LOT more than the other workout videos i was using. the others weren't really very hard.... so what's the point, really?

did anyone else notice that level 1 isn't actually 20 minutes? maybe it's just the clock-timer on my DVD player, but the entire thing was about 27, if you include the warmup...?

i'm going to do the same as Lindsey & FutureDrBraun: level 1 for a week, Level 2 for a week, Level 3 for a week, and then alternate. I also try to do my lame jog (only two -- slow! -- miles, but HEY i'm 40 years old and not exactly Miss Buff over here, so ....)

hey, anyone? anyone? is anyone on this thread really shredding this month? any updates?

i did Day Two today. my leg muscles were SORE from yesterday, and i was worried i'd wimp out, but no.... it was easier than yesterday. yay!

PS: my darling fiance told me today, "hey, that's a nice athletic shape you're working on there, baby!" (keep in mind, i'm a size 14. these were very generous words for sure. but nothing like a nice, positive boost from the fiance, right? awww.)

    Go Sailor go!

I'm working out late, after ten, so I can shower then go to bed. I hate showering early!!

Your fiance is awesome!!! Exactly what he should be saying!

Great job sleepylittlesailor!!!! When you are sore, that means that you are getting stronger and leaner :) Your fiance sounds so cute and sweet too!

I did Day 3 of the shred today...i was so tired, but forced myself to do it at the end of the day and I'm really glad that I did. I'm still on Level 1, but I can already tell that it is getting easier. I just need to keep up my motivation and keep a better eye on what I'm eating.

Laylabelle - I hope that you have a great, late workout!! I am so motivated by you ladies who are sticking to the shred! Thanks for inspiring me to stick with it!!!

    Laylabelle & FutureDrBraun:

    whooooo-hoooo!

    go, go, go!

go, team. i love it that we're not in this alone.

and i love it that i'm not the only one who finds the workouts kind of butt-kicking. (ouch.) i feel great after these more intense workouts, tho -- better than after some of the wimpier ones i'd been doing before. so something about them works, for sure.

alishadhs4: i think it says 3 to 5 pound hand weights. i'm actually using drawing-board lead weights borrowed from my fiance, instead of real gym weights. so i'm not sure what weight they are. i suspect they're 3 lbs. but when my arms won't budge a single more inch, i like to think: "okay these weights must really be 4 pounds, minimum!"

I usually use 10, 12.5 or 15lb weights at the gym as I lift pretty regularly, I dont know that 3 to 5lbs is going to do anything for me. i have some 5lbs around the house maybe I will have to try it and see...

I'm on level 2 - they are all on demand so i didnt buy the DVD...but have been doing it a little over a month.

My main goal was to tone up.  It is WORKING!  seriously, i am much more toned and feel great!  I am going to do levels 1 and 2 every day for the next week.

I also have it on demand but for some reason I only see 1 and 2 and not 3! I just did workout 1 with no problems. My dog was sooo annoying though and thought I was trying to play with her on the floor when I was doing the ab workouts...haha

I need to jump on this. I have not worked out since--er, well, that month is unimportant but what is, is that I SERIOUSLY need to get back on the wagon cuz right now it's like 100 miles down the road and I've got some serious catching up to do.

I don't even want to post a before picture. I've gained 5 lbs in the last month and it all went to my tummy. Horribleness! I feel so lazy sometimes :P

AlishaDhs4: wait.... you are saying 12 or 15 pound weights in each hand while doing this workout??? i've never heard of someone doing this kind of workout with that kind of weight. 25-30 pounds overhead -- many reps -- while hopping all around and squatting and stuff??? whoa. you're superwoman.

PS: recommended is 3 to 5. and Jillian the instructor is using small hand weights, too.

when i go to the gym, i use 12.5lbs for the bicept/over head presses and i use the same weight for chest, unless i am doing chest press than I use a 45lb barbell...i usually use 15 for just bicepts/tricepts and 15 in each hand when doing quats/lunges. I work out pretty vigoriously, so i might go purchase 10lbs to do these work outs, i used 5 today but it seemed too simple.

I started on Monday and did my second day today.  I hope this does work.  I would like to loose 25 pounds before the wedding which will be next June which is realistic I really need to loose about 75 but this is a start.

Just finished my Day 1. It got my heart rate going so its good stuff. I'm planning on doing Level 1 for day 1-10, then Level 2 11-20, Level 3 21-31. I need to lose 10 pounds by February. That's when I get my dress :-D

Yay, Yay, Yay.....I am so happy that we are all doing this together. I almost skipped doing it tonight because I was NOT in the mood to hear Jillian's voice and jump all around, but I did because I knew that all of you were sticking with it.

Alishadhs4 - I have been using 10 lb weights and most of the exercises are do-able for me. I'm still on Level 1 and feel like I'm getting stronger each day that I do the workout. I think that it would be a little too easy with 5 lb weights for me.

I'm also trying to jog for 25 minutes in addition to the 30 day shred 5 times a week. I will let you all know how that goes tomorrow :)

Did day 2 tonight. Had to take a break between 1 and 2. Still sore! When does the soreness go away?

At the gym I normally use 12 or 15 lb weights, but 5 lbs in more than sufficient for this video. With the high reps and over the shoulder moves, you do get sore. There are a few moves (especially with arms) that you need to downgrade for. Some people have a lot of shoulder pains, popping and problems if they don't.

    Better safe than sorry!

shesgotchutzpah - I only on day #4 and still a little sore so I'm not sure when that goes away!! I am just thinking that as long as I am sore, I am doing something right :)

I agree that with some of the moves (the high shoulder presses) are better if using less weight!

Alright Day 4 of Level 1...so far so good! Your totally right FutureDrBraun: when you are sore DON'T GIVE UP! Actually, I have noticed that I am sore all day long until I workout again!

I'm using 5 lb weights, what are you ladies using?

I don't have weights so I'm using large cans of beans until I can hit Target up for some. I'm on day 2 and halfway into it, I was cursing Jillian out. I'm so out of shape its pathetic. I'm glad to have such a large support group
