I have recently been asked to be a bridesmaid for one of my close friends. She’s in the very early stages of planning and is beginning to think about venues. She would just love to find a venue that is a winery that is close to a beach. This will be a non-religous ceremony and ideally in NSW but too fussed.
This is a difficult one as all the NSW vinyards I know are inland (mainly the Hunter).
Any help or a point in the right direction would be a big, big help 🙂

waddle: I don’t know whether Victoria would be out of the question, but one of my close friends recently got married right on the beach in Dromana.
Their reception was held not too far away at Stillwater at Crittenden Estate, and they had all the beautiful photos in the vineyard amongst the grapevines! The food was beautiful, but service left a lot to be lacking. I’ve heard that there were issues with the staff before, during and after the wedding, but this is all secondhand information. It was a very nice location though!

I have heard Morning Star Estate (www.morningstarestate.com.au) in Victoria is very beautiful and reasonably priced. However the staff there aren’t the most organized, so unfortunately it’s a tradeoff between cost and hassle with them.

If Queensland is on the cards – have a look at a few at Mt Tamborine – it is only about half an hour from the Gold Coast. I had a look at a few venues there with my sister a few months ago and although not as large as the wineries in the Hunter Valley, have some very pretty photo ops and heaps of accomodation options both on the mountain and towards the beach…

There are a lot of wineries on the South Coast of NSW. Coolangatta is one option, which is a lovely old village with accomodation on site.
I am not sure of any of the others that do functions, but I would think there are a few.

waddle: My advise is buy Hello May, Hitched & White Magazine (all bridal mags but a very different take on the idea, think more ‘design’ oriented) they all have the most beautiful venue ideas in them, since getting engaged i’ve bought these magazines religiously and have ooh’d and ahh’d over so many stunning venues (mostly in NSW!)
Good luck with the search!

The Mclaren Vale region in South Australia (about 30-40 mins outside of Adelaide) has tons of vineyards very close to beaches but probably too far away I guess. Some of the good ones for weddings are Woodstock, Rosemount, Coriole, Penny’s Hill, Serafino, Middlebrook, Tapestry, Maxwell etc.

I got married at Mt Tamborine and it was truly lovely, with lots of vineyards. But it’s nearly an hour to the beach 🙁
