I am thinking of getting my upper lip waxed, I have a few hairs that keep coming back, and I am really sick of dealing with them. My hair (everywhere) is really thick and grows like a weed. Hair removal is a huge pain in the ass, and it has become my daily annoyance.
I want to know if facial waxing really makes the hair grow back thicker. I am desperate and tired of dealing with these persistant pesky hairs. What are my options as I cannot afford to do laser hair removal? I feel like the more stuff I do to make myself “prettier”, the more stuff I have to continue to do. Help!! This beauty regimine is breaking the bank, and my self confidence!

@thumpurr: I ahve been shaving my upper lip for over 10 years and no it doesn’t grow back thicker and no more hairs don’t grow. I shave it about once every 2-3 weeks and that takes care of business for another 2-3 weeks. I used to bleach but it made the rest of the non-problem hairs stand out even more so it really wasn’t doing the job. As for facial waxing, if anything it is supposed to damage the hair follicle and cause the hair to grow back thinner after doing it consistently for a long time.

Waxing definitely does not make it grow back thicker!

@thumpurr: I waxed mine for years, and it definitely didn’t influence the hair growth for better or worse. Depending on what the hair is like and how sensitive your skin is, you can also bleach your upper lip hair (they sell kits at the drugstore), but I thought it was more irritating than waxing.

I’ve been waxing mine for years also and it’d anything, it’s gotten thinner and more sparse. It’s not very dark to begin with, just noticeable in the right light. But I do mine about once every hree weeks at home with either Sally Hansen or Veet strips and it works just fine. I’d recommend it!

@thumpurr: I’ve never waxed my lip, but I do get my eyebrows waxed every so often. I’ve noticed that it actually grows back in thinner and more sparse.
I don’t have any coarse hair on my lip, but I do have dark hair so the normal “peach fuzz” everyone has stands out a bit more on me. I have one of those Finishing Touch small electric razors and I just use that every so often on my lip.

Thank you for all of your responses.
I just went for my hair color appointment, and had them do the wax. All of the ladies there assured me that it WOULD NOT grow back thicker. So I went ahead and did the wax. I get my eyebrows done regularly, and they don’t seem to be bushy, so I am hopeful that this will have a positive result. Will go back in three weeks to have it done again….and for $5 the price is right.
I have tried the bleaches, and it looks funny in the sunlight because I have such dark skin and it seems to show up more. I hope I didn’t make the wrong choice…….as I am already stressed out over everything else beauty due to wedding planning. I will keep everyone posted on how it turns out!!
