soontobemrs.h:  i’ve never been a bridesmaid, but I can tell you that if I were, I would be happy with whatever gift the bride gave me. I am a firm believer that its the thought that counts.

I think its nice when the bride gets the BM something that would be meaningful to them.

soontobemrs.h:  I once got a shot glass with the logo of my favorite whiskey. That was thoughtful and useful!

Bath stuff is meh, I usually have a lot of it anyway and I like to pick out my own stuff.

soontobemrs.h:  I re-read it and I see what you mean, and yes, I think it’s totally OK to pick out a personal gift. I would just make sure to keep it relatively fair between the girls. (i.e. not an iPod for one girl and a homemade oven mit for the other ;))

Gift cards, jewellery from my favourite places (kate spade, stella and dot etc.) love the floral robes, nice bottle of wine and pretty wine glass

soontobemrs.h:  I have been in three weddings and have not recieved gifts (other than jewelry chosen by the bride to wear the day of, a clutch chosen by the bride for the day of, etc). Given the expense that is requried of bridesmaids, I would have loved a gift card somewhere – dinner place, bookstore, Starbucks, Gap, anything like that. So nice of you to be concerned and try to get your girls individual gifts!!

I’ve only been a bridesmaid once, and I was given a delicate heart shaped necklace that had my first initial on it. I loved it and put it on right away, and didn’t feel like she got it for me to just wear that day. She’s my bff though, I would’ve loved anything she gave me.

I agree that personalized gifts are the best. For my girls, I got them each a necklace that they either explicitly said they loved or one that was personal to them and our relationship together.

A super chill bride who picks (I don’t care about mauve vs. lilac, I’m never wearing tea-length satin again) and pays for a fugly dress I’ll never wear again that me and the other bridesmaids can bond over in our (secret!) shared misery.

Who lets me pick my own shoes but arranges for me to get my hair did so I don’t have to struggle for an hour with wrestling my hair in to a straggly up-do.

Who has a family shower planned by her mom I just have to show up to (and eat all her mom’s homemade brownies).  Who has a local bachelorette party that costs less than 40$/guest.  That doesn’t involve hours of crafting her DIY centerpieces.

Who has a 5 minute rehearsal followed by an awesome rehearsal dinner.  No dance routines to memorize.

Who pays for a hotel room for all the out-of-town bridesmaids to share.  Who is genuinely surprised I even bothered with a gift/card after all those gruelling bridesmaid chores.

^All best gifts ever, from various amazing bride friends!

soontobemrs.h:  I did something similar to this.  I also paid for their hair to be done, I let them wear whatever shoes they wanted, they just needed to be black or silver…I didn’t care about shoes, nobody’s looking at the BMs shoes…

Something personal to me and useful. I don’t care if it’s a monogramed key chain or what. I got a monogramed robe that we HAD to wear for pictures. That was it. I’m never going to wear the robe again, especially since it didn’t have my future initials. Mean while, my FI was a GM in the same wedding and they got a personalized pocket knife with their name on it. I loved their gift.

I’ve been a BM before and while it isn’t really a gift, persay, to pay for anything related to the day-of wedding look, it would be nice to get that paid for. Even if I didn’t get a trinket, that would be saving me money.

The 2 best things I’ve received as a BM were personalized, beautiful thank you notes from Wedding Paper Divas and alcohol- haha, can’t go wrong there.

Even a nice, handwritten note trumps cheap jewelery or lotion/bed,bath and body works stuff in my book.

soontobemrs.h:  Those bags are awesome and super nice. I would love to receive one, especially with all the goodies you packed in- remember, those little bottles of their fave liquor RULE.

I like bath stuff! So I definitely think things more tailored to each individual is a good idea. Otherwise it would be nice to have hair paid for.
