I personally prefer the more simple look of damask runners over solid white or black linens.  The full damask overlay on the rounds overwhelms me a little, but I think since you’re thinking of doing it on every other table, it could be quite lovely! What are you thinking for the other tables?

Here’s what I got from a google search:

I love this!

I used black and white as wedding colors but stayed far, far away from anything damask. We had very clean, simple lines/decor and damask didn’t fit with that. If you have a lot of fussy things (intriate/large centerpiece) damask isn’t going to compliment that, either. A huge damask print would probably compete with it rather than accentuate it.

Personally, I stay away from damask, but if it is your taste less is more. You probably don’t want a full damask tablecloth, a runner would probably be sufficient.

i had black damask table runners on top of black linens.  the centrepieces were gorgeous fuschia flowers so i really liked the pop of colour.  sorry, no pics.

Ooh I love damask. We just did runners, though. But it featured a lot in my inspiration and planning even if we didn’t end up with a whole bunch. I support the damask!

An inspiration board I made:

And this was a mockup of our centerpieces

According to efavormart.com they are 12″ wide.  Makes sense since I think the square mirror in my picture is also 12″.

I think the black/white damask thing is sort of busy…but that’s me and everyone has diff tastes of course.  I used damask linens but they were the same color-ish.  The damask itself was a texture if that makes sense…

@sma5071:  I had black table clothes with Damask squares in the middle and did every other chair with damask sashes, two different centerpieces (manzanita branches and rose pomanders) and it looked beautiful!  Here is one picture:
