I’d like to incorporate some music by FI’s favorite artists into the wedding somehow – either as ceremony music (prelude, processional, recessional, etc.) or even first dance or just plain old reception music. His favorites include Tom Petty, Pink Floyd, and REM, and I enjoy all of those artists, but I’m not familiar enough with them to know particular songs, or whether they even have any music that might work with a wedding, however unconventional or atypical. (He also likes Tool, but I’m drawing the line there – no Tool.) 😛
So if anyone can recommend any songs by those artists that might be usable, please post here!
ETA – The reason I’m not just asking FI is, 1) his response is going to be, “Dude, I don’t care,” and 2) I might want to try to surprise him with something.

Tom Petty is my all time favorite, and we are walking into the reception to “Here Comes My Girl”
“You Wreak Me Baby” is a fun upbeat song
“Alright for Now” is my favorite soft and slow tune from him…

@Irishb: Thanks! I will check those out.

REM’s “at my most beautiful” is a really sweet song, and probably one of their only songs that’s straight-up romantic (most of their lyrics have more abstract or political meanings)

@finnaroo: Very true, and part of the reason I really had no idea where to start looking for wedding-appropriate songs! I will look into that one you suggested. 🙂

my new husband is a big REM fan, and he says:
“REM’s At My Most Beautiful is very sappy, and pure pop. it’s very slow and beach boys ish. If he likes Petty & Floyd, he might prefer something with a bit more edge to it. My choice would be “Be Mine” from REM – beautiful melody, but has a really nice quiet verse / loud chorus with huge guitar crescendo at the end. “Strange Currencies” is a little bit of a ‘rough draft’ of Be Mine from an earlier album and a bit more in your face. “
We used “Be Mine” as our last dance song, and I really liked it, and think that could be a nice addition somewhere for you. And it’s about getting married – there’s a line about rings and fingers! 🙂 Give it a listen! Good luck!
