I am wondering if anyone used crinoline or some type of petticoat for their mermaid styled gowns. If so can you attach a photo?
I am wondering if i need it or not, and will consult with the alterations specialist at my appointment.

I don’t think you need it! I think it looks great as-is. Mine comes with a crinoline or underskirt but I’m having it removed… I think the dress flows better without it, IMO, and yours is a similar shape and style.

Yes you can get a fit n flare crinoline if you want more volume at the bottom

I think it would look great to add more volume to the bottom! Right now the bottom doesnt poof that much to really show the mermaid/trumpet shape compared to the top of the dress.

I don’t actually have a pic of my dress with the crinoline on, but I definitely recommend it. It made a huge difference! Mine also has a little hoop so it helps keep the dress of my legs and feet and walking is going to be much easier.

@Jas00: I will be wearing one ! I definitely notice a difference from when I tried my dress at the store, and home without a petticoat. The skirt was more … flat ? without a petticoat. I thought it was worth getting a petticoat to get the fuller effect I was going for (and that I love so much about those dresses). But I don’t want to buy one from a bridal salon, I’ll probably get mine off Ebay.

Yes, get a hooped one. One that fits the dress shape. So much easier to walk in. It takes the weight off your legs and gives a better shape.

@Kazza: Thanks for your input. I’d love to see your gown!
@nativedesires: yes I was a bit disappointed the bridal salon didn’t have any on hand for me to try on with the dress.
@gelaine22: I totally get what you’re saying. The train is also wrapped around the side too. I think that has a little to do with it.
@Pinkmoon: oh thats neat. I hadn’t even though about that. It seems like it would make it easier to walk and dance about.
@NauticalDisaster: okay great, thanks for the tip! It would probably add more drama to the gown!
@Michellejane: Thank you! Did you order one from eBay as well? It seems like most people look there.
