I feel like our local board is sadly neglected...
Let's at least have a meet'n'greet, shall we? I'll start
Here on WB I go by DW and I call my better half J. We both grew up in Grand Rapids, but neither of us has lived there for a while. I moved 8 years ago and am currently living in NE China; J moved to Washington DC 3 years ago and is still there.
Our families and some of our friends are still in GR, so we're going to get married there. Although our LDR is preventing us from being 'technically' engaged (i.e. no ring yet), we are starting to brainstorm ideas. We're looking at Fall/Winter/Spring 2010-2011 (yeah, it really is that well decided, hehe) and will probably pick a date ultimately based on when the venue we want (which we still haven't found) is available ~ the earlier the better IMO!
So, what about you?
really? no one?
no wonder our board is so quiet! or should I say my board, muahahaha.... hehe.
I'm so far out from a date, that I'm not even really posting here yet because I'm just not really full on into all the planning yet. I'm Beth, engaged to Mike. Currently living in Jackson, MI but I'm from Muskegon and that's where the fam is, so that's where we'll be planning the wedding. Tentatively looking at summer 2011 at this point, the biggest hurdle right now being that I would like to be notably slimmer before walking down an eisle, and it's going to take a bit of time before my best friend has graduated seminary and can officiate :)
I just moved to Western Michigan Grand Haven to be exact. We moved here because my bf is an air traffic controller and was sent to the Muskegon airport.
I am originally from Clarkston/Ortonville area of Michigan in between Flint and Detroit (about 45-50 mins to either). I am having my wedding back down there. We are not engaged yet but I am almost positive he has bought the ring and the waiting game has just switched gears. We have decided it will probably be Sept/Oct 2010.
Hey all! I'm Carla. We live in Kzoo but I work in Grand Rapids. Not sure how much help I will be on here as our wedding is in the Riviera Maya and our at home party is going to be on the lake front. But hi just the same. LOL
Althought I'm more active on the Detroit board since that is where I live now and where we are planning the wedding, I still check in on my west side ladies! I'm originally from Zeeland and I just LOVE western Michigan!
@semanthia: Grand Haven is a fantastic place to live! Especially in the summer!
Hi everyone! I'm Heather, and I'm really more active on TheKnot, but came across this site today and decided to join. :) I live in Ravenna, but FI lives in GR. We'll be having our ceremony in GR and our reception in Ravenna. Our wedding date is 09/25/2010 and all we have accomplished so far are our venues.

@heatherp - welcome to the 'bee!! we love it here, and hope you'll choose to stick with us (as well as the Knot)!
question: have you found the knot local boards to be helpful? I was diasppointed with them early on and kind of never checked back in. No one there seemed to share my limited budget, but maybe that was all in my head. :)
Hi Everyone! I'm Kelly. My FI is from Zeeland and we met our freshman year of college at Kettering University. During our school years we both Co-oped with Steelcase in GR so I moved over there from my home near Toledo. I absolutely fell in love with the lakeshore area and we are now planning our wedding in Holland on July 31, 2010!
@daydreamwanderer
TheKnot boards can be very helpful! I'm on the GR board and there are a lot of postings, but it does get kind of slow at times. Everyone posts vendor reviews after their weddings, which can be very helpful. TheKnot boards are not just for brides with big budgets, I can assure you! I'm trying to keep my wedding $8,000 tops (it's not working for me so far though, haha :()! Someone ALWAYS has suggestions to help you out!
Hi Everyone!!!! My name is Rachel. I am from the Grand Rapids area but currently live in Atlanta, GA. I met my fiance (he is from New Jersey) and kindly talked him into having our wedding in GR. Which is great because my mom helps out a ton with her living in the area. I am still short a couple of vendors and was wondering if any bees would like to help? I am currently looking for a place that makes great cakes at a reasonable price and a rental company that rents candleabras and such. Thanks for all your help!!!!
@Rachel, you should try Events by I.Candy for candelabra rentals. They are newer in GR so their website isn't great, but they should be able to help you!

My fiance and I are getting married in September of 2010 in SW Grand Rapids. Our reception is at Eve Lounge inside the BOB.
Hey everyone, I'm Tawny and my FI's name is Matt. We were both born and raised in Grand Rapids and we've been engaged for a little over a year and a half now. Until two months ago there was still no actual wedding date in sight, so I called him when i was on break at work and told him that we were getting married next May no matter what. And that was the best thing I could have done for the wedding. I struggled for so long to try and find a garden to have our wedding in, but all of the places that I loved were too far away. So we are getting married May 28, 2010 at Fallasburg Park in Lowell.
I am also looking for a place to rent candelabras and I'll be sure to check out I Candy, thanks for that. Also, if anyone knows of anyone locally who is looking to sell anything for a candy buffet, I would love to hear about it!
Welcome to WeddingBee, Tawny!! Congrats on setting a date too :)
Did you check out the Meijer Gardens?? They are gorgeous if you want a garden wedding!
HI Tawny!! I am also having a candy buffet! I would love to rent or possibly sell the items I am using for my candy bar. My wedding is 4.24.2010 in Grand Rapids. If you are interested, I will have my mom (who has all of our wedding supplies at my parents house near G.R.) take some pictures of stuff we are using. Also we will have a ton of rectangle vases that I am using as my centerpieces. I would love to send you (or anyone else that is interested) pictures if you would like!
Hope all is well with the West Michigan Bees!!
Hey West Michigan Brides!!!!
I am actually getting married in Southwest Michigan- in St. Joseph, but there isn't really a SW Michigan board, so I'd love to see ideas that you ladies have. My fiance (who is English) and I live in DC and are planning and August 2010 wedding at my grandfather's house on the beach (which is where my parents also got married!)
Hello! I am also a SW michigan Bride! My name is Sarah and my FI's name is Dustin. Our wedding is set for 10/02/10 in Glen Arbor at the homestead resort. We are also on a tight (i mean tight
budget) at only $6,000. But so far we have stuck to our budget pretty well, I just got my save-the-dates, programs, and thank you cards for a total of $25.00 at michaels!! Everything was on clearance and i had an extra 40% off coupon! Congrats to all other SW Michigan brides. I hope we keep this post going and are able to use each other in our wedding planning!

Welcome to WeddingBee, Sarah!! There are sooo many great resources here :) I think you're really going to love it!
Meijer Gardens was quite a bit out of out price range, and, if you want your wedding to actually be in the gardens, you can only invite like 30 people. So that was out. But we found an even better place in Lowell. Has anyone ever been to Fallasburg Park? It's gorgeous!
Al, rcmulford, I would love some pics of ur candy buffet jars. You can email them to me at nerdprincess2007@gmail.com. Thank you so much!
Calling all SW Michigan Brides! :-). Im still in the need for a great (and cheap cheap) DJ. If anyone has any good referrals i would appreciate it!

I am hoping to stay below $500.00 for 6 hours.. Is that possible
. Our wedding is small and we wont be having most traditional dances, no garder or flower toss no other normal dances besides the first bride/groom dance. Just hoping for a few hours of good music and a little announcing.
Hi, I am new to this whole "bee" thing. I live in Muskegon and am planning a wedding for next summer. As a kindergarten teacher, I am limited to the months I am available to get married. I have worked at a golf course for the last six years where I supervise and bartend for weddings. Therefore, I have seen A LOT of wedding receptions. We are going with a beachy but elegant theme.
Hi all,
I'm Rev. Carleen and was born and raised until 6th in GR and Kalamazoo area since. I am a wedding officiant and to answer some questions, I have married couples at the Meijer Gardens both in the building and at the waterfall. I know they both had more than 30 guests for those. I also did a ceremony at Fallasburg Park and it is a very nice park. A recent GR bride did an awesome candy buffet and I can direct you to pics, as well.
Ladies,
Mark your calendar for a free bridal show in Hastings, MI (between Kalamazoo and GR) on Jan. 30th from 12-4 pm. The event is at the Walldorff Ballroom downtown, located on the 3rd floor of the Walldorff Pub bldg. There will be free food samples and their food is fabulous. Hope to see you there!
Hi i'm Heather and the FI's name is Jason. I am from South Haven and will be getting married in the church i grew up in. We are having our Reception at the Silo in Allegan. I am looking for the best prices on Vase rentals and Flowers and everything. Our wedding date is 8-14-2010. Has anyone found chair rentals for under $2.50 with sash?
Hi ladies! My name is Chelsey and my Fiance's name is John. We live in Kalamazoo and are having our ceremony at his church in Paw Paw and our reception at The Silo in Allegan on October 23rd, 2010.
@Cheerleaderchick_24 I'm just starting planning the details, but I'll keep you posted if I find anything good. We have the same reception site!
Hey all! I am a West Michigan bee (already married though...) originally from Grand Haven and married in Grand Rapids. I love hearing about all the resources the local brides are using!
Welcome welcome!!!
@cheerleader - I'm not renting chairs :( so I haven't even looked into that one ~ sorry!!
@Chelsey - YAY October brides in Michigan! Woo hoooo!
@lallison - did you get married in WMichigan? Would you be willing to consider posting to the sticky thread on our local board? One of the biggest benefits of these local boards is the ability to let other brides know of tried and true, trusted vendors!
Hi yall! I am from Montague Mi and My FI is from Whitehall MI. We met my Junior year of high school and his senior at our churches youth group. We have been together going on 4 years now and have a wonderful baby boy together who is 1 1/2 years old. We were engaged September 15, 2008 and are going to be married in the church we met on May 22 2010 then head off to a log cabin type hall right on the coast of Lake Michigan for our reception. SO EXCITED!!!!!!!
I am planning a summer 2011 wedding in the Muskegon area. I am looking for a reception venue for 100-125 people, any recomendations?
Hey Michele! Welcome to WB!
For vendor recs, check out this thread, or the vendor tab. :) You'll find a lot of options - it's a great place to start your search and get inspired.
Hi. Just joined. I'm Kristy and my fiance is Josh. I am from GR, he is from LA and we currently live in San Diego. We are getting married on May 22, 2010 at Fountain Street Church/Pantlind Ballroom at the Amway. Having a hard time planning from afar (espacially the rehersal dinner) so any tips are much appreciated!!!
Ive been on here about a month now, and finally ventured into this board! Its so cool to think about all the girls right around me that are going through the same thing! Congrats to all and good luck!
We are living and getting married in Southwest MI, but having our reception in Indiana.
My FI is a true Michigander... We are wathing some Red Wings as I type...
I was born in Ohio, lived in NC, then moved here in high school where my FI and I met. Then we began dating 10 years later!
We both love Michigan SO much. Its outdoors has inspired our whole wedding theme. Lets just say there will be lots of rocks and sand.
Have fun planning MI girls!
Hey everyone, I'm Tina and I'm from Grand Rapids and my Fiance, John is from Lapeer, MI. We have been engaged for about a year now, and have another year to go. We are getting married August 2011 at Windmill Island in Holland, MI. We have just started the planning process so any tips or recommendations would be extremely helpful!
Welcome Welcome!!
Bubble Tea, I found starting by just overwhelming yourself with inspiration (blogs, boards, etc.) for a solid month or so worked really well. Anything I liked, I bookmarked. No matter what. Then I started to wean myself and sort through all the inspiration looking for trends - now I'm well into running with those things. :)
