I'm a scientific analytical mind by day, and a wedding planner fanatic/Martha Stewart by night!! Getting married at Rancho Las Lomas. It's costing us a fortune, and I sometimes wonder if I should have found a more affordable venue, but I am absolutely in love with its beauty and seclusion away from the chaotic world!! Hopefully we can offset some of the costs by doing DYI projects and being ever so creative and resourceful!!
I live in OC, but I'm getting married in SD... we looked at a lot of OC venues, but they were just too expensive :-/
DrDazey - My mom was in LOVE w/ Rancho Las Lomas! You have a beautiful venue :)
AliCherri -It's absolutely beautiful. But we're living on ramen and mac and cheese to pay for it!!
Aw yes. OC girls!
An Irvinian & grad student at UCLA- thus a major commuter... we are getting married @Hans Fahden in Calistoga, Ca! And I need advice on blocking rooms- so if someone can head over to my post on 'blocking hotel rooms' to put their two sense in that would be greatly appreciated because I am going bonkers on what to do!!!! =o)
DrDrazey a Martha Stewart gal by night eh?! This weekend I am going to attempt to master baking Martha Stewarts Linzer Cookies so I can taste test them for potential wedding favors treats! (We were considering passing out tea/coffee to go with the idea of B&B/homey-make-u-feel-good-treats) But- my man has some varying ingredient substitution requests, so this weekend will be interesting in our cooking test kitchen! Wish me luck! ;o)
Sparkles -- I'm an Irvine girl, but we got married on campus at UCLA! We did our engagment and wedding pics at Royce Hall and the wedding was at the UCLA faculty center.
OC bride here too!! We are getting married at a church in Santa Ana and the reception will be held at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove!
Happy planning to all!!
@Caliocteach- Awww! you did! See I would love to take engagement pictures on campus! But a) I would fear being tasered and b) my fiance's alumni is UVA and UNC, so he would feel strange I bet. (I'm kidding on A btw) Did you need clearance to take e-pics on campus from security?
That is so cool you got to do that. I love that campus. I never realize how close to Beverly Hills that school is until some famous person shows up on campus... But the thing is- I don't really ever know who they are by name... For example, I was walking up the stairs to Royce Hall. I hear this whistling. I figure it is some rude frat boy. So I tried to ignore it... But the whistling continues, with even more emphasis! So I turn around to give this frat boy the evil eye when I recognize the guy as some huge actor from Third Rock from the Sun. At the corner of my eye I see a mov't. And I turn. It's his DOG! And then he says to me "I apologize profusely for giving you the impression I am cat calling you, I was merely trying to get my dog's attention" AND THEN I recognize him as the voice of Lord Farquad from the movie Shrek. I kneeled down to pet the dog... and then I squeeked a "no problem, cute dog" & continued on my way. I had to call my grandma to find out it was John Lithgow. Apparently his wife is a prof on campus, so he walks his dog around campus regularly (or so some student told me). Go figure!
Anyhow... Caliocteach, do you know of any stores that sell any (I'm a dork- but I am going to suck it up for what it's worth) Bruin Bride apparel? Yes. I already concurred I am a dork. If no one sells them... they are missing out on sales... from mua.
Sparkles -- Great story about John Lithgow! No, we did not need a permit to take photos there. We kept a copy of our photographers contract with us just incase we were "harassed" by campus security. The reason why they give people a difficult time is because of pro publishing (magazines, etc..), but our contract clearly stated that we would have full rights to all of our photos, we would not be forced to buy prints from our photographer. My husband did his undergrad at UCLA, and then went to Boalt for Law, so he assured me that it would not be an issue -- and it wasn't! (PM me if you would like a link to our pics!).
I bought two UCLA garters online, but I don't remember the store. If you just google UCLA bridal (and other variations of) you should be able to find places selling UCLA wedding stuff.
Have fun!
Hi everyone!
Im Vanessa. My FI and I will be getting married in Tustin on May 1, 2010!!
We have been engaged for about 2 years now and together for 5 years, so long engagment. We live in the Antelope Valley.
I'm getting married at SeaCliff in HB. I grew up in So Cal and moved away for college and never came back. So I am planning from afar.
I'm in Irvine. I work for a national magazine and my fiance is a Ph.D student at UCI. I have been an OC resident now for almost a year! I love it here, but I'm feeling pulled back to my hometown in wine country for our wedding (haven't set an exact date--thinking either 5.1.2010 or maybe 6.12.2010).
@Sparkles: Hans Fahden is only 25 min. from my mom and dad's house, and we considered it for our wedding! Such a gorgeous venue! Perfect!
We'll probably end up having the wedding at my grandma's lake house. :)
Hello Bees! I have been living here in the OC for 7 years now, my fiance is from here, but we are getting married up in San Francisco! As much as I love OC and there are so many beautiful places here, we wanted to do something different and "force" our friends to spend a weekend away with us :) so after looking at probably 50 venues from Tahoe to Sonoma to SF, we chose SF. Easiest for people to drive/fly right into. But I did really love Sonoma (sigh) :)
Hello everyone! I grew up here in Orange County, but I went to college on the East Coast and spent seven years there before deciding to return home for law school. Every now and then I still get a pang for New York, especially because that's where my fiance is. We plan to get married at my neighborhood parish in Costa Mesa, with a traditional Vietnamese American* banquet reception in Anaheim. Ever since my friend introduced me to weddingbee, I have found that more and more time has been devoted to reading it than reading for classes!
*I say Vietnamese American, but because Vietnamese culture adopts many Chinese customs, it's probably more appropriate to say Vietnamese/Chinese American reception. Also, my fiance is Filipino Chinese, so we will definitely incorporate Filipino elements into the wedding as well.
Hi just joined the board today! It looks like a great resource! I went to college in OC and stayed out here at the beach. About 2 years ago I bought a house, got promoted and met the man of my dreams! It was a crazy six months!
He is from FL and I'm from So Cal. We are from different coast and different cultures, Indian and American. We got engaged in Santa Barbara in Oct of 2008 and are getting married in Oct 2009. I'm just hitting the half way mark and I am starting to feel the crunch!
Hi! I am getting married on 9/6/09 at the Amada Plaza in Buena Park. We both went to school in Brea and are now living in Los Angeles. Because I lived in the bay area for college and beyond, all my friends are there, but are traveling to so. cal for the wedding. Any tips on where to have a bachelorette party in the OC? My friends like clubs, but LA can get crazy. Any recs are appreciated!
@ drexalia:
Flight in Huntington Beach is a small, but nice lounge. There's also Heat (which is similar to V2O, but the smoking patio is indoors) in Anaheim, and Sutra (nice ambiance, music can be hit and miss), Shark (tends to be a mainly Asian crowd on Fridays), and Vegas in Costa Mesa.
Hello fellow OC Bees!
I'm an attorney practicing in the Inland Empire but reside in OC. We just got engaged a month and 3 days ago so we haven't put down a deposit yet. However, we've been corresponding with the Hyatt Resort in Huntington Beach. FI loves ocean views and so we struck a deal - he gets ocean view and an open bar and I get to decide the rest! =) Vietnamese/Chinese/American banquet reception but Vietnamese tea ceremony in the morning in LA.
Where do you all plan on holding your rehearsal dinner??
Ok - I live in Whittier (LA County), my daughter goes to school in Yorba Linda (OC) and I work in Pomona (La County) - yes I drive A LOT!!
On the LA board we are thinking about having a meet up - not sure if anyone from the OC would want to join in?
Message me if you think you might want to and thoughts on central areas - if there really are any?
Hi,
I am Kim and live in La Mirada which borders the OC. We are getting married on July 18, 2009 at the Villa Del Sol in Downtown Fullerton.
I am actually going to be in need a good seamstress or tailor to help alter my dress. I am having it custom made but since I submitted my measurements and when I get my dress I will be down about 20 pounds. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know. I would like to find someone who does good work but also will not want me to hand over an arm and a leg.
Live in huntington beach and getting married in Mississippi.
I know! Long story.
on the eternity yacht through electra cruises in newport beach. i'm sooo excited for this gorgeous day i'm going to have!
Hi Ladies!
I live in Sunset Beach and after a long and painful search for venues, we finally picked the Long Beach Museum of Art. I really love it there!
Does anyone know a good (super affordable) florist and hair/makeup vendors?
Good luck with all the planning ladies!
Hi Hive!
I grew up in the OC in a little town called La Palma but have since moved of the area. I'm a UCLA alum, the FI grew up in Bama and went to school in Florida. So we're doing a southern-Taiwanese wedding hybrid down in Laguna Beach.
I can't wait!
Hi Hive!
I realize I'm late in the game on posting- but better late than never, right? :) I grew up in Claremont (small suburb east of LA) but moved to OC for college- FI and I are both UCI alums- but we now live in Tustin . We've been engaged for over a year now, but we're still venue searching to fit our small budget!
Hi everyone! My fiance and I are getting married on 10-10-10 at The Garden Room in Garden Grove. It is a perfect place because the ceremony and reception are all at the same place. There is a beautiful staircase to walk down from into the chapel so I am so stoked! Also it is pretty reasonably priced given that it is in Orange County and everywhere else wants $15,000 + for the place alone. My wedding can't come soon enough!!!
Hi Hive! I live in Placentia. I am getting married in Temecula at Lake Oak Meadows. Everyone asks if it's a winery, but it's not one yet. It's a beautiful green ranch with a vineyard but they don't have their title yet. I can't wait to be married. It's so exciting to see so many OC brides.
Hola! I'm a OC bride too! Just recently started getting into WB. I'm getting married in downtown Fullerton at the Villa Del Sol. Everything is pretty resonable and the location is awsome. Its like a spanish courtyard. I originally wanted to do it at The Hacienda, but it was way to expensive. So I found the next best thing.
Lece4evr-we're actually getting married at The Hacienda on 10/16/09! When we booked it was pretty affordable so they're honoring our price, but ya I think they've gone up a lot since then.
