@C_Lynn:  I haven’t ordered any jewelry online, but a friend of mine’s FI got her ring on Blue Nile and it is gorgeous. As far as I know, they have a really good reputation and I think that’s one of the most important things when buying anything online.

I got by stone (but had it set locally) from http://www.Gemsny.com  I have had three different jewelers/gemologists look at it since and they were all impressed by it, wanted to know where I got it, thought it cost more, etc. It is a 1 carat violet sapphire (that looks blue in sunlight). It has been heated. They also sell stones that have not been heated. My fiance paid around 400 dollars for it back in April, if I can remember correctly.
