I have many friends and family who are teachers and developed a silly theory but it seems to hold true for nearly every teacher that I know! I realize it is not fool proof but am curious to see if it holds true on here as well (at least for the majority).
I’ve come to realize that many/most teacher’s that I know who are married have met their SO prior to becoming a teacher OR if they met their SO after becoming a teacher their SO IS also a teacher. I am curious does this theory hold true to you?

I’m not a teacher, but I know one teacher who met her husband while she was a teacher, and he is NOT a teacher. However, she met him because he was actually engaged to another teacher at her school. So, I couldn’t really answer your poll 🙂

I’ve known my SO since high schoo. =)

This is like asking, “Did you meet your significant other before or after you began your professional career?” Some people did…some people did not…

I think it would make sense that if you meet your partner once you’ve started your career, it’s likely to be a coworker or someone in your field, simply because A) that’s where you’re going to meet most of the people you know, and B) they’re more likely to share similar interests and values…not sure that’s specific to teachers.

@mightywombat: I definitely realize there is a reasoning behind it…I’m not saying my theory completely has no basis to it- but I do think if I did a similar post and changed the occupation from teacher to farmer or banker or whatever, the results would be different.

HAH! I had to go outside of teaching to find my SO because there are a grand total of like 2 guys that are single that teach in my school…interesting theory but not one that seems realistic to me!

FI is the teacher and him and I met when we were in the same college class. So, he was in the midst of becoming a teacher, but not yet an official teacher. I, on the other hand, am in the marketing field. 🙂

Interesting theory! I’m finishing my degree in elementary education so I’m not a teacher yet and I’ve (obviously) already met my SO 🙂 He is not a teacher (although I think he’d be an amazing teacher/coach).
ALL of the women in his family are or have been teachers, though, so that’s an interesting tidbit.

The three teachers I know only dated other teachers and now they are married to teachers.

I’ve never dated a teacher.
My friends and I joke around though. All my friends are either married or dating men who are in the same field as my SO.
We crack jokes about how only teachers are patient enough to date engineers.

I didn’t know how to answer- DH is a teacher and I’m a teacher; we met before we became teachers, though we both intended to be teachers before we met.
