Congratulations! It is beautiful in the Thousand Islands during the summer.
We are getting married next summer in downtown Rochester.
Congrats! That area is so beautiful in the summer (the FI is from the region). I'm getting married in Rochester next summer. Reception in Churchville. Can't wait!
I'm getting married in Little Falls, NY - Outskirts of the Adirondak park, Mohawk Valley. We are having an October wedding - hoping the foliage will be intense. I'm a CNY Native, Cortland area. We searched from the Finger Lakes to the Thousand Islands before settleing on our venue. Hope it all comes together.
Hi all! I live in Chicago, but I am getting married in August at home in the Albany area (Waterford and Troy, NY specifically).
Not and upstate bride, but I went to college in Rochester, so I wanted to say hi! :)
Please tell me someone on this board is having a Dinosaur BBQ Rehearsal Dinner or something!?!
Hey Everyone!
I'm originally from Utica, Mr. Radish is from Potsdam. We both used to live in Buffalo (which is where we met) and we got married in Syracuse... so we kind of have all of our Upstate bases covered.
We live in Chicago now.
Any other Utica or Syracuse girls here?
I live in New York City but am getting married in July in Grafton, NY (about 20 minutes east of Troy, NY). We're having a laid-back BBQ with swimming, horsehoes, and basketball.
Would love to know what vendors people are using!
Hi ladies!
I'm excited about this board! I currently live in Boston, but moving to Baltimore MD soon... but grew up and went to college in CNY, and will be getting married in Skaneateles, a little town in the Fingerlakes near Syracuse. Yay CNY!
Hey Shailer,
Skaneateles is beautiful! What venue will you be using?
Hi Radish-
Thanks for the message! Skaneateles is where I grew up (and my parents, too!), and we'll be getting married at a B&B with a carriage barn called Frog Pond B&B. So excited! Where did you get married?
I've never heard of that, but I did look at a few places in Skaneateles like the Sherwood Inn. It's so pretty out there.
I got married in Syracuse and had our reception at the Wellington House in Fayetteville.
Hi Toucan!
For our rehearsal dinner we're doing Dino BBQ. I couldn't resist. Mmmm :) I'm going to have to drink a TON of water though, because it's soooo salty.
MMMM, BBQ....
Sorry, haven't eaten dinner yet. ..::salivates::..
We live in Ithaca and are getting married at the Fontainebleau Inn in Alpine, which is SW on Route 13 between Ithaca and Watkins Glen. It's close to both Seneca and Cayuga Lakes but is actually on CayuTa Lake - I have to tell people every time that I do mean to say "T" instead of "G!"
As for vendors, the wedding is being catered by Word of Mouth (two very very cool women in Trumansburg, who are using my grandpa's chocolate beet cake recipe to make our cupcakes/cake), and the "flower-lady" is Audrey Norberg from Plenty of Posies - she has a stand at the Ithaca Market and grows most of the flowers on her farm. Our photographer is Laura Kozlowski, who recently moved to Ithaca from Boston (as did we), and Rabbi David Regenspan is officiating. We found online an article he wrote about why he performs interfaith weddings and under what circumstances, and I felt like it described us really well. He's a little quirky and has a son who's an Oberlin alum, just like me, so I thought that was a good sign.
My dress is being made by Chrissy Wai-Ching in Seattle, which is about as un-local as I could get, but I just couldn't resist...
Right now we're looking for a mellow rehearsal dinner space in the area (preferably near Alpine, since a lot of the guests will be staying closer to there than to Ithaca) that's pretty inexpensive. Most of our guests will actually be at the RD because most of them are from out of town.
Oh my gd, sorry, foaming at the mouth.
GorgesViola -
Mr. Radish was in his friend's wedding at the Fountainbleau Inn a couple of years ago. It was lovely! It's so beautiful there and from what I recall, everything went very smoothly.
They had their RD at the Watkins Glen State Park at one of the pavilions. A lot of the OOT guests were staying at some lodge/hotel place that was right near there so it worked very well.
I am glad to have gotten this thread started! Currently, I live in Canandaigua right near the lake and I love the Finger Lakes! My future husband and I met at a Seneca Lake wine tour bachelor/ette party when he was Best Man and I the Maid of Honor when my two best friends from college got married. The groom was his brother and a dear friend of mine, so when we get married two very important people in my life will go from feeling like family to being family.
Ok, at any rate...I went to college/grad school in WNY and work in Rochester. As a TI region native I've spent a lot of time in/around the Syracuse area (still hopelessly devoted to Cuse basketball!) and am a rabid Dino BBQ fan...not to mention a good Abbott's cone! The point of all this rambling....I am so familiar with many of the areas/venues everyone has mentioned and I love hearing about what other brides are planning.![]()
We are tentatively slated for a two day wedding in 2009. We are looking at a small ceremony on Friday evening for about 30 guests @ Boldt Castle on Heart Island with dinner to follow. Saturday we will have an informal brunch and boat cruise of the TI followed by a cocktail/BBQ reception for about 150 somewhere in Alexandria Bay, possibly Clayton.
Mrs. Radish, yay! I'm so glad you've been to a wedding at the Fb. It was the only venue we visited in person but just felt like the right place. I like that it's family-run but they do a LOT of weddings, so it feels personal but has the routine down.
I would love to do something at a park but am worried about the weather/cold factor, since it's in late October. I wonder if those pavilions are heated at all... that would be so awesome.
Cyd, I love your story!!!
Hi everyone! I'm in Buffalo, NY and we're getting married at a downtown hotel, it's the one thing I really wanted, especially since it's a winter wedding. You really can't take advantage of all the gorgeous mansions around here in the snow :)
Natakie - I love the idea of winter wedding in a beautiful hotel! If my future husband weren't a teacher I would be very tempted to do the same. We are trying to keep everything to summer so he has time off to help and won't need to use vacation time to go on a tremendous honeymoon afterward. We considered doing it over the Christmas break he always gets, but his birthday is December 23 and we decided we don't always want our anniversary, his birthday and Christmas lumped right together...you have to spread the fun out across the year!
Hey everyone! I'm actually a Tampa, Fl bride but I was born in raised in Syracuse, NY. Reading this board makes me miss home so much!! (My dad lives in upstate NY still!) A side note about Dino BBQ... my mom and stepdad (who now live in Tampa but both grew up in Syracuse) love it so much that they used to order the BBQ sauce and have it shipped to them by the boxful! Lucky for those of us transplanted to the South, Albertson's (just like Wegman's) carries Dino BBQ sauce!! My fiance who was born and raised in St. Pete, Fl didn't understand my obsession until he tried it and now he's hooked too!!! Congrats and good luck to everyone planning a wedding up there!!
Hi girls! I've been reading Weddingbee for a few months now thanks to the advice of a great friend, but after I found this post for WNY/CNY brides I just had write my first post. I admit that I technically grew up in PA, just across the boarder from Elmira, NY, but my wedding is taking place this September at Logan Ridge, 10 mins north of Watkins Glen on Seneca Lake. My hometown didn't have enough options for hosting our event, so the Finger Lakes seemed like the perfect mini vacation for all of our out of town friends and a close drive for my family still in PA. Best of luck to all my fellow bride-to-bees!
Hello! I am also getting married in the Finger Lakes, it is so pretty there. Our wedding will be next spring at Emerson Park in Auburn, NY. I am just getting started planning. My sweetie is from Syracuse and I am from Buffalo. These days we live in Philadelphia, but our hearts are in NY!
Cyd- Boldt Castle is absolutely gorgeous! Great choice. I love the 2 day wedding idea. Be sure to post pics when its all said and done :)
I'm lucky enough to have family with property right on the St. Lawerence River. I'll be getting married in Ogdensburg in the summer of '09. I'm having trouble finding vendors up there though. I don't know if it would be easier to go across the border to Ontario instead? anyone have any ideas? I need to find a rental company that does tents, tables, chairs, etc. in that area.
Hello all!
My fiance and I are both Upstate NY natives (Me - Fredonia, him - Grand Island). We live in Newport Beach, CA now and are planning our wedding long distance UGH!! So far so good though....thanks to the internet! We are having our reception at the Buffalo Launch Club in Grand Island. It's a beautiful site right on the water and has a beautiful lighthouse and docks too! Lots of space for kids etc.
I am a bargain hunter extraordinaire! If anyone is having trouble finding something don't hesitate to ask. I have scoured the internet!
Good luck and happy planning!!
Miah
I am getting married in East Aurora, and our reception is at the Roycroft Inn. I was originally thinking of the Finger Lakes region, as my mom lives there, and was THIS close to booking the Fontainebleau. Great choice, GorgesViola!
Congrats to you all!
Hi everyone,
Im definitely new to wedding bee. I think my F and I have finally convinced the families that Lake George, NY is the best place for our wedding in october, 2010. I am originally from VT, now living in Utah, and my sweetie is from ithaca. We're hoping for an adirondack feel, with some simple elegance, to make everyone happy.
If anyoen has any experience with Lake Geroge weddings, we would LOVE to hear about it. At the moment our leading candidate is the Lodges at Cresthaven. A little but like summer camp, with things to do (since we are sort of doing a whole "weekend" with virtually everyon being from out of town).
Also, we're doing an "interfaith" thing. I'm jewish and he's, well, not much. He's into having a Rabbi, and we found a great one down in Fishkill, but if anyone has ideas further north, that would be great, too.
Thanks in advance!
lynnie
I'm getting married at the Inn at Erlowest on Lake George in September. So Excited! Just went for the tasting this past Sunday. Food was incredible!
FI and I are thrilled!
@ lynniearudner: We are also an interfaith couple and were married in Rochester, NY, in February. We worked with two officiants. The Rabbi is in Porter Corners (Saratoga Springs area), which is definitely closer to Lake George than Fishkill, NY. His name is Rabbi Laurence Aryeh Alpern and his website is http://www.rabbiweddings.com/.
Edit: As for the rest of this topic, we were married at the Interfaith Chapel at the University of Rochester and had our reception at Mario's Italian Steakhouse.
Hey everyone!
I'm from Ohio, the FH is from Pennsylvania and we JUST moved into the village of Montour Falls. :)
We're getting married in June 2011 at Vintage Garden Bed and Breakfast, in Newark. It's wonderfully beautiful and fits our criteria: fun, cozy, and joyful.
We look forward to settling in and getting married here.
@Natakie16: Buffalo here too, hello!! Almost everything for our wedding is still TBD, but our flowers are being done by my aunts floral shop, the Trilium on Kensington in Amherst =)
Hi everyone! Another upstate NY bride here. We are planning for next summer in Ithaca, NY.
Do any of the brides who have made it to the other side have any advice on vendors? We're still looking for photography, hair/makeup, and possibly flowers.
Congrats to everyone!
Ohh - I love this thread! I'm from Buffalo and my fiance is from Rochester (though we both live in Albany)! Since most of our family is scattered throughout NY we thought we'd look to somewhere in the finger lakes or CNY for the wedding...but we're just starting to look (haven't even set a date) and it's been hard!
Ideally, we would love to have our ceremony & reception in the same place (somewhere laid back...not a typical reception hall) which is in walking distance to a fun outdoor location (bar?) where we'll have the "after party" & where our friend's band will play. We are doing a wedding weekend to make it more fun for everyone who's traveling so we'd love to have the wedding close to a small town in the finger lakes/CNY area...any thoughts?!
@Rosie2011 if your getting married in Ithaca still let me know! I live in Ithaca and was married in Hammondsport and used vendors from Ithaca and surrounding.
Ok, so I see that this is a very old thread, but there aren'y many Buffalo threads out there (or Upstate in general)
I am from Buffalo, and will be getting married in Allegany State Park. I practically grew up there. My ceremony will be at a gorgeous outdoor ampitheatre, and the reception will be at a group camp.

For all of us NYS brides who are not in the NY Metro area, I thought it would be great to compare where each of us is hosting our nuptials. One would never guess it based on the majority of wedding blogs out there, but there are brides in existence north of the city.
I live in WNY currently but am a Thousand Islands region native so our wedding will take place over two days next summer on the St. Lawrence River right in the midst of the islands.
