My family is LDS/Mormon so I get weird looks when I get a tattoo :p (I have 2)

@MissStruggles:  My mom has told me she doesn’t really like my tattoos and my grandparents threatened to cut me out of their will if I got another tattoo (I’ve gotten three since then). I’ve never had strangers say anything negative though, only good things 🙂

My tattoos aren’t visible unless I’m wearing a tank top (and even then, not all of them can be seen).  So I’ve never gotten comments.  My sister is also tattooed, and my mom is thinking of getting one (she just can’t decide on a design).  So I’ve never gotten flack from family or strangers.

My SO’s mom apparenty made a terrible face behind my back when she caught a glimpse of one of them once, though.  They’re LDS/Mormon (SO and I are atheists).  So I’ll definitely have my tats touched up before the wedding and make sure some of them are showing in the dress, just to tweak her nose. (I know my SO will get a kick out of it – he hates his mother. I get along with her far better than he does.)

The only one that’s visible is the one on my wrist, and no one really notices it unless they’re in close quarters and actually looking at it.  My grandma has made some disappointed noises when she sees them (she makes the same noises when my sister wears plaid, proclaims her love for country and drives around in her red pick-up), but I don’t really get many comments from family, either.

I have one that I really like and am not planning on getting any more. No one ever sees it since it’s on my lower back. When I first had it done, my best friend at the time said something along the lines of, “Um, I didn’t know it was going to be so big.”

My dad has brought it up at least once a year since I got it. He’s waiting for me to say I regret getting it so he has more anti-tattoo stories. It has yet to happen. It’s not bothersome at all. He can’t help but agree with me that it is hard to regret something that no one ever sees, and that I still think is pretty years later. He would love it if I said otherwise, though. : )

My SO’s parents had no idea about it until SO and I had been dating for 5 years or so. I bent over one day wearing a shorter shirt, and FMIL and FFIL go, “OOOO, MsW has a tramp stamp! Mr.M never told us that, so he doesn’t kiss and tell!” It was completely friendly teasing. I think they were pretty surprised that I had a tattoo.

I would never get a tattoo in an area that I couldn’t reasonably keep covered any time I wanted.

Oh, I guess my family has commented on them semi-negatively. I just ignore it. It’s no one else’s business what I do with my body. I’m an adult.

No, I’ve never gotten any comments that were rude. My mother told me she didn’t like my thigh tattoos, but never rudely expressed it.

Lots of people think mine are fake because they’re all red linework but thats the extent of the idiocy I’ve encountered.

@MissStruggles:  I hate this one – “I love your tattoo. What is it?” Hell-O! How can you love something if you don’t even know what it is?

I refuse to make comments about other people’s tattoos unless they specifically ask for my input.

Not rude exactly, but it seems like evryone and their mother needs to tell me that they would never get a tattoo. Ok, I never asked you to.

I live in Portland, the capital of tattoos so it’s never a big deal. I have a tiny black tattoo on my right earlobe (about 1/4th of the way up and a black symbol on my back shoulder. Most people don’t notice I have tattoos unless I wear a tank top of an off-the-shoulder top.

My brother likes it but my mother has never seen it.

@MsW-to-MrsM:  Haha same! When I got mine (only have one) my friend’s comment was: “wow, that’s big …. and permanent.”  I was like, um thanks?

I have a tattoo (a watercolor Koi fish) on my stomach/hip/lower rib that you can only see in a bathing suit, but I’ve gotten comments about how it is going to turn into a Whale/deform/stretch/look terrible when I have kids.

I generally reply that it’s my “Child Free I.D. Badge.” I asked for a mirror image of it in different colors for my bithday this year 😀

I wish complete strangers would come up to me in Wegman’s and say, “Lord Jesus…look at that tattoo!” or “Lawzy!  Let me get a gander at that gigantic engagement ring!” like other Bees experience.  Alas, strangers only want to touch my hair (it’s naturally curly).  Hell I let ’em…I don’t care.
