Would Cornell let you take some pictures there? Willard Straight, the Library, and Sage Chapel are all right in the same little area, and all have beautiful spots. Not sure how tough that would be on 5/15, though. Will your reception still be at the park if it rains?
I am guessing that Cornell will be out of the question on that weekend. It was my first thought, and my dad is an alumni, so it's be pretty cool.
We are having the ceremony at the park if it rains, but in an indoor location.
Any other suggestions?
Cornell would actually work for that weekend as graduation weekend is not until memorial day weekend. It may be the law school grad but that doesn't make campus insane. If the AD white house is open, there is parking nearby and it has some great indoor interior. Expecially if you are looking at the morning, you would be fine (and there is free parking)! If you are looking for something more modern, Duffield hall would be great. You may also be able to go up into the clocktower to take some pics or the Johnson art museum.
Non-cornell: The state theatre might let you in for some photos or Museum of the Earth. The cayuga nature center might also be fun. What about some of the B&B's downtown or Dewitt mall... What about using the old mill at upper treman park from some of your photos? Pm or email me if you are interested in more ideas or campus parking logistics.
What about the farmer's market? I went to a wedding there 2 years ago and it's lovely, with the view of the lake and a very rustic (but covered) setting...
There are some beautiful pavilions in Watkins Glen but all the links on the town site are dead. Does Buttermilk or Taughannock Falls have any pavilions?
I'm probably not much help, sorry!
Where will you / bridal party / groomsmen / etc. be staying? There are some gorgeous inns, b&bs, etc. Maybe get a room or two anyway, and ask if you could take some pics there (you might get some gorgeous getting-ready shots). That way, you have an automatic back-up place!
I agree with aliciareneephotography... we are doing our photos at a B&B outside of Rochester that has big, red barns. And it was FREE to do the photos there for an hour. Maybe look into something like that?
I would definitely not recommend the farmers market on a saturday. It will be a mad house with lots of people, difficult to take pictures, and parking is time consuming no matter the weather.
I re-read your post and the top story of the Cayuga nature center would probably fit what you are looking for. They have big open room with a fire place on the main floor. Another option to check, would be the barn at the Lab of Ornithology.
Thanks so much for the suggestions. I'm glad to know that Cornell campus wont be so packed that weekend. I knew it wasn't graduation, but had such a hard time getting hotel rooms, even 9+ months ahead of time, that I figured there was a lot going on. I'll take a look around campus at those locations and see if they'll work. The Cayuga Nature Center is a great possibility too. And to be honest, I never thought about using the mill at Treman State Park!! I've seen the outside, but never been inside. They do have a great porch though, which would be great.
Thanks so much!!!

I can use some help. I'm getting married in Ithaca at Treman State Park. We have some awesome places to go for outdoor photos. But, in case it rains, I want to have a back up location ready. I'm hoping to stay within a couple miles of downtown and am looking for a place where I can take couple portraits and bridal party pictures! Preferably a place with a fireplace, something rustic and not too polished.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
