I’m looking for suggestions on a nice, affordable camera. I know nothing about them and do not currently own one (I just use my iPhone for pictures) but Darling Husband and I are TTC and I’d like to have a good camera to capture moments with future children and our family. If you don’t mind letting me know which camera you own, how much you love it, and price range, I would appreciate it!

I have used a ton of Canon powershot cameras for years and love how compact and easy they are to use, and great pictures. These are easily $100-$200 now. For slightly better pictures, especially portraits, I like using my canon SLR (T3) with a 30mm or 50mm fixed lens, but this combo would be $500-$1k depending on the body and lens you get. Personally, I’m eyeing a mirrorless compact now (Sony NEX series) – quality of a SLR, size of a compact. And these run around $300-$500, + additional if you want to buy more lenses, but I think it comes with a pretty good every day lens.

pinkshoes: Thank you so much! Exactly what I wanted to hear. The Sony NEX series sounds like what I am looking for… something that produces the same quality photos of SLR cameras, but without the bulkiness… and they intimidate me a bit. Let’s be honest- I’m not really going to read a manual or buy interchangeable lenses. I am very camera-illiterate!
