I’m planning camping trips with my younger sisters. I’m doing a trip with each one, with a different activity with each one. I’m no stranger to camping, but I’ve only previously camped with a moderately large group of people.
I’m not really that worried on the logistics of camping. My grandmother has spent the last week telling me how dangerous it is for me (a 23 year old, outdoorsy woman) and my younger sisters (14/12) to go camping without a guy present. I chose campgrounds that are family oriented – we’re not backwoodsing it by any means. However, after hearing about how we’re going to get murdered because it’s just us two girls alone, I’m kind of worried.
Any Bees have suggestions or advice for this? Are there safety tips anyone wants to share? We will each be carrying a phone at all times. I’m not sure if packing up the tent etc each day when we leave to do other activities will be excessive or a good idea….

If you are in a camp ground that are family oriented. I wouldn’t worry about it. I have camped all my life. And never have packed up my tent until it was time to go home. We just put if any valuables in the vehicle that was locked or kept at home.

Sassygrn: Did you leave the campground with the tent still up? We’ll be travelling a few minutes to local state parks to go riding, hiking and kayaking.
I really shouldn’t be worried, but hearing a consistent round of murdered/attacked/eaten by bears that we don’t have from my grandma has started to worm its way into my skull!

gillykat824: Yes all the time. Not a huge deal no one bothered our tent. Not a huge deal. I have camped from regular camp grounds to state parks. Always left the tent up the whole time until it was time to go home. The only time we stayed at the actual campsite was usually meals and evenings around the campfire. We would go hiking to to tourist trap stuff in towns, etc.

I have camped with girlfriends and with just my two young children and had no problems. It is totally safe to leave the tent and your other camping gear while you do day trips. Just take valuables with you in the car.

I’ve only gone camping with my husband, we mainly go to state parks, but we always leave our tent set up and even sometimes our chairs out at the campsite until we pack up to go home. Everything else we keep in the car. No one has ever bothered out stuff.
Most of the time when we’re camping the other people around are families or other groups of people our age (20s-30s) and very friendly.
