So MoissaniteCo just came out with their Old European Cuts and I am IN LOVE. This is my absolute favorite cut of stone and they didn’t make it when we got engaged, so I went with a square cushion instead. But now that they have the OECs, I’m thinking about “upgrading” to one of those (really sideways-grading because I’d get a similar size). I mentioned it to Fiance the other day and he said maaaaaybeee for Christmas 😀
The only thing is that getting a new head/prongs is out of the budget right now. The prongs I have are double-claw and were intended for a round stone, so I’m thinking that maybe it would be possible to have a round of similar size (+/- .5mm depending on what size OEC I get) set in the same prongs. Here are some pictures of my e-ring, what do you think?

It will weaken the prongs to have that done, so I wouldn’t recommend it. Plus, I don’t think it will work because – the square stone has 90 degree angles- cut into the prong to set it. I don’t want to ruin your hopes and dreams though, so ask a local jeweler!

yep, I agree with cbee. ask a jeweler.
just curious: I thought OEC cuts were no longer done for structural reasons – because the girdle is too sharp and chips easily? I have an original OEC (from the early 20th century) and it has chips all around the edges. but I still love it anyway.

@janie-janie:That is true, but MoissaniteCo had a HUGE demand for OEC from the people on the Betterthandiamond message boards so they started making it 🙂 I have a small OEC diamond as well and it does have chips. I love OECs though so I wouldn’t mind it. I’d use the diamond I have but it’s a really small, really horrible quality diamond even besides the chips haha.
