I’m overly stressing out over this. My dress is mermaid and strapless. My two fears are:
1. because it’s a zipper back (hidden zipper + fake buttons and I love the look), it won’t be able to be tight enough to keep the dress up
2. it becomes too tight and I won’t be able to zip or zipper will break
My biggest concern is while there’s 8-9 inch difference between my waist and chest, the difference is all coming from breasts and my ripcage is very very small so I feel like it won’t be able to hold the dress or the dress needs to be really tight so the zip might break when I take a huge deep breath. Also, the fact that difference between my hips and waist is a little more than 10 inches which make me feel like it would be hard to make it really fitted. I never had a clothes that really fits my waist and hips at the same time in my life (of course I hadn’t had a seamstress to fit clothings to my body), but it wasn’t a big problem until I chose this strapless wedding dress.
My first fitting is still a month away. I don’t think a corset back will look good with my dress but I feel so worried and thinking about this too much. Could you please share your experiences?

@afake79: mine is zip back and stays up perfectly! don’t worry about it, let the alterations people make it so it will stay up. i worried about random stuff before i did my first fitting as well, but until you have it on and start walking around/sitting in it you won’t know if there are actually any issues to worry about. 🙂

Mine was a zip up and stayed up perfectly after alterations. They originally did make it too tight so that I could barely breathe but I pointed this out and they fixed it. I could easily take a deep breath and it stayed up the whole night. A good seamstress will definitely be able to make it for right!

@afake79: It’s not the zipper that holds up the dress. It is the structure- boning etc.
The zipper should be a straight line down the middle of your back. It is the darts and seams that fit the dress to your figure.

As the PP’s mentioned, I am sure the dress will be just fine with the zipper, a seamstresses can work wonders to make the dress fit you perfectly! But, if you’re still concerned, I had a corset put into the inside of my dress. I am not a fan of the corset look, but am thrilled that I can get the tight/loose as I want feel with it in my zippered dress!

Thanks for the assurance! I honestly why I worry for this kind of stuff but occasionally I get to feel so worried – I guess I hate uncertainty and there are just too many!
Again, thanks a lot and I can’t wait for my first fitting!
