I'm not quite sure, but maybe you can call the shop to ask what lines they carry in their shop?
Do they have a website? Sometimes, they list it there. And you may have some luck with looking up the different designers online to find your dress.
they cut out the tags...omg! you should examine the dress interior to see if you can find any signature lines, like seaming or stitching that may give it away. i cannot tell straight off at all...that is a tough one! i recommend asking them who their popular designers are and even telling them that you want that dress but you don't want some random designer--they might tell you. if they lie, you'll find out. either way, you'll have some info!
I'd be weary of buying a dress from anywhere that cuts the tags out of their dresses. Not only is this an illegal practice, but it is the sign of a dishonest and money-grubbing shop, which also usually means poor customer service and sometimes big hassles when it comes to ordering, receiving your dress on time, and alterations. It sounds like you agree, but I'd emphasize to your friend that she should do all she can to find this dress elsewhere, even if this place has the best price! Might not be worth any money saved in the end if they are running their business illegally and will likely not be easy to deal with.
Maybe she can send the photos to some other area bridal shops and see if anyone else can help. I'm sure someone will know who the designer is!
Agreed. I wouldn't buy from a place that cuts tags out; it seems totally shady. Why would they do that? To keep you from buying somewhere else? To hide the fact the dresses are stolen, or significantly marked up? Not the kind of relationship you want to have with your dress shop!
I agree-- cutting the tags out and refusing to divulge information as fundamental as the dress's designer is not okay-- I can hardly believe it! The shop you buy from is just as important as the dress you buy, and your friend is going to be putting a lot of faith and money into this shop. Maybe she should emphasize that she will be happy with a dress designed by a local designer or seamstress, if she's determined to get this one. And definitely call the BBB to see if there are complaints or reports.
If it were me, I'd keep looking at reputable places and find something else from a shop I am comfortable with. I actually did not buy a dress I loved because I felt the shop owner/seamstress was more concerned with her own vision than mine (forcing tiara/veil/crinoline on me, refusing to shorten train, etc). I didn't want to be worried that the dress wouldn't be exactly what I want, when I want it. I found something else I love AND I love my seamstress and salesgirl! I am not worried at all about the dress not being perfect!
I spent all day yesterday in Schaumburg looking at wedding gowns......come down state Illinois and see how good the wedding shops are. So disappointed in shopping in the burbs. Some really shady places up there.
I will keep looking for you! so nice to see something other than strapless. Was the shop you went to Evas?

shady operation!
I like MissMandy's suggestion. Call them anonymously and just ask them what lines they carry. That will level it down for you by a lot.
It is totally illegal to cut out designers tags. I'd report them to the BBB.
I am totally feeling your pain and suffering. I too am trying to locate a dress that I saw in a place that cuts the tags out and does not tell you the manufacturer. Only my place doesn't let you take pictures either. I've gotta say I have snuck my camera phone in and unlike your good pics mine are horrible so I have a good memory but I have looked on just about every website and in every store and I cannot find it anywhere. I don't know what I'm gonna do. I LOVE AND WANT THIS DRESS!!
