I'm using a woman named Joanne who does pinup hair and makeup, but has done quite a lot of wedding work too...she quoted me i think 200 dollars for hair and makeup the day of, plus 50 dollars for the trial...Let me know if you want her contact information.

I don't know much about NYC, since I'm in Texas, but I found my wedding hair stylist on craigslist. Have you tried there? I got several responses to my inquiries, could browse photos/websites and ultimately was very pleased with what I found. Good luck.

Ditto, if you are pressed and the recs you got don't pan out, check out CL. I have found a few there that gave me pretty reasonable quotes. And with the economy, some money is better than no money, so you can totally negotiate with a few - just be firm and you'll see how many will be willing to take you at your rate.

My wedding is in Brooklyn in about 3 weeks and I don't have a hair stylist yet. I can't afford to pay $350 for day of plus $175 for a trial, which is the price I've been quoted by many salons. Any recommendations??
