can i ask for vendor references?

posted 7 months ago in Beehive

Hi - A few of the reception venues we are looking at have very few to no pictures of events at their spaces. I am having trouble imagining how the spaces would look set up for a party. Is there any way I can ask for references? A photographer who has shot there or something like that?

Thanks!!

You can always ask your vendors for references!  Some offer them up front.  I know my photographer and dj both offered my references.  I am sure you can ask the venue for references as well.

Definitely ask for references! If they are unwilling- I would not want to hold my function there!  You can also try local boards on The Knot to see if people from your area have been to / had an event there.

I asked several of my vendors for references and they all provided them right away. Me and my mom split up the list and each called a few, then shared what we learned. Everyone we called was eager to answer our questions. I think people like to help.

I'm not sure if you mean references as in people who have held events there, or if you want the venue to give you the names of photographers and florists who have handled events there.  You should be able to get both.  We specifically went with a florist who has worked with our venue, as we wanted someone who already had some ideas and recommendations of how to decorate the space.

thanks so much!  i'm not in the state we're having the wedding so i haven't actually visited any vendors but one i'd been e-mailing with seemed baffled that i'd want to see how the blank room looks with something in it!  and i'm looking at semi-unconventional places so i haven't found images/references online.  thanks again!
