@PinkStripes:  it depends how the head is attached to the rest of the ring-some rings have changeable heads and some do not. Do you have a profile pic so we can try to help advise?

I don’t see why a jeweler can’t take your diamond out and reshape the prongs..are they afraid it will compromise the strength of the prongs themselves?

You could ask a third jeweler to see what they say, but my guess would be you need an entirely new setting to get claw prongs.  If your ring had a peg head, it would be an easy change, but it looks like your prongs are integrated into the setting.  They MIGHT be able to shave the sides of the prongs a bit, but the concern there would be that there isn’t a whole lot of metal there to begin with and it might weaken the structure of the ring.  The claw prongs in the picture you showed are also a bit longer from the top than your ring, so that might be part of the issue.

my prongs look “claw like”. so whoever said they were photoshopped like that? is absurd.

you have two options here- find another jeweler for an opinion, and potentially have the prongs reshaped, or find another jeweler who can replace the prongs completely.

they should be able to reshape them. i don’t see why they couldn’t. they can easily add gold to the prongs, and change the shape.

go to a jeweler who knows what they are talking about. they should just be able to cut that 4prong head out and put a 6 prong head in. They can do that with a regular prong setting. They can’t just add two more prongs but they can cut those 4 off and put the 6 prong setting on. The only heads they cant just change out are different setting types… But a 4 prong to a 6 prong – absolutely. Thats what they did when we got my new setting. It had prongs for a round stone but i have a marquise. They asked me what kind of prong setting i wanted and he just removed the one that was on the ring and put my marquise prongs on.

@PinkStripes:

i hope you can see the claw-like parts of the prongs. i can try and get a better photo later on if you’d like. this is the one i have handy on my computer, and my ring is in the box (it’s cleaning day, so i won’t wear it until this evening after the cleaning is done).
