My FH is making a stand for appetizers or dessert that very much looks like a tree, it is very much a piece of metal art that is usable. Does anyone know if we can copywrite it or do we have to apply for a patent? A patent is a rediculous process and would require an attorney, but a copywrite would be a much easier process.

@tksjewelry: You can copyright a piece of art. If you do a google search, many, many results will come up, but here is one I found.
The summary is that whenever you create a piece, it is automatically copyrighted to you, it is just pretty hard to prove you came up with it first if it’s not registered which this link explains how to do.

Art, writing, logos, songs etc are automatically under copywrite. If someone copies and sells the design then you can sue them. Patenting is more for inventions, processes, less “artsy” stuff.
