@minted:  I would try and get him what he wants BUT I would look into Estate Rings…my own ring is from an Estate situation…check into jewellers that deal with them…you can get some really beautiful and one of a kind pieces:)

If you have old jewelery in either of your families, shop around for a custom made ring.  I did that for my fiancée’s engagement ring, and it was less than I thought it might be.  I had all the gold, and 7 small diamonds.  All I had to buy was the central sapphire and one small diamond.  I spent under $1000, and it was a very intricate design, requiring a lot of time and labour from the goldsmith and gem setter.

Have you heard of Do Amore? We got our rings there this one is $1,210 and looks similar to the above one, except it has three smaller diamonds. Every ring they sell gives 2 people clean water for life in places such as Haiti.

Honestly, I can see why he loves that ring. It’s so beautifully designed. Is it platinum?

@minted:  I don’t have any suggestions, but I just want to add a reminder that while tungsten and titanium rings tend to be cheaper than gold ones, they can’t generally be resized.  So if having one specific ring is very important to him, I would avoid metals that are difficult/impossible to resize.
