My “surprise” shower is in three weeks and I know that the invitations have already been sent out. Several out of town relatives were sent invitations, but I know they won’t be able to make it. Today when I came home, there were two boxes from Bed Bath and Beyond waiting for me! Am I allowed to open them or do I bring them to the shower? I asked my Maid/Matron of Honor and she said if I knew who they were from she could tell me if they RSVP’ed but the box is direct from BB&B so I don’t know who sent them without opening. What’s the etiquette here?

Some will say you should open it right away so that you can send the giver a thank you note promptly (that way, they know it arrived). In your shoes I would probably open it to find out who it was from and then check with your sister. If they are coming to the shower, rewrap and reopen there so they can see, but if not, send off the thank yous.

Open it and send a thank you. You’ll be glad you got them out of the way later.
Better: have your fiance take a picture of you opening it that you can email the giver later, or show off at the shower if they do come.

If you don’t know who they are from I would just bring them to your shower and open them there. That way if the people are there you can thank them in person and if they aren’t it’s just 2 more gifts to open anyways.

I’d open it at the shower personally.
