Hello All! Maybe you can help me with this…my wedding is a little over a month away and we have a shower coming up in two weeks. Yesterday I got a package in the mail from one of our guests! Is this a shower gift or a wedding gift? I opened the cardboard box that it was shipped in but the boxes inside are wrapped. Do I open these gifts now or wait until after the wedding? If I open them now, do I send them the thank you note now? I am just not sure which is the proper way. Thanks!

I’m not sure what the proper etiquette is but I say open them now 🙂 I would! I would send a Thank You card right away so it gets to the guest before the shower.

Open them now, send the thank you note now! Your guests want to know that they’re gift arrived safely.

i’m not an etiquette expert by any means, but i think it’s perfectly acceptable for you to open them now and to send a thank you note now. that way, in case it’s a shower gift, you thank them in a timely manner, plus i hear that getting thank you cards out of the way is a big relief!

I don’t know what traditional ettiquette would dictate, but we opened everything we received, even before the wedding. It was kind of fun to see what people were getting for us!

I would open it now and send a thank you card now. It is better to make sure that nothing is broken.
If you prefer not to open it yet, then bring it to your shower and open it then.

I’m not sure what etiquette says, but we opened everything as it came so I could get the thank you notes out quickly.

This is our plan of action: all gifts that show up from shower guests who are not attending get opened. Thank you’s will get sent after the shower since technically I should be opening them at the shower (according to my mom anyway). I’m opening them before b/c the guest list is kind of big (80 women) so if I brought every gift that was sent I’d be there all day.
Wedding gifts: open immediately, send thank you’s immediately.
