I'm not sure if this is poofy enough for you, but we added three additional crinolines to it. :)

I have a draw string petticoat on under my dress in this pic.... but I am thinking about trying a hoop skirt.... my dress is 10 layers of tulle and the extra layers from a petticoat are quite annoying....

Without petticoat (and still not fitted)

I don't know what my hoop skirt was called. But it was HUGE. And there was only one hoop...
Sorry the pic is so big!!
@ella86: I got my alterations done at the bridal boutique and they made it for me. I wish I would have saved it! I would have totally mailed it to you! Lol
and thanks! :)
Mine was slightly more poofed than the model but still not crazy poofy. I still loved it though!
I used a super mega crinoline. My dress also had 8 layers all on its own.

Mine is kind of poofy. It doesn't have a crinoline or anything under it though.

This is mine! I'm wearing a hoop underneith for poof :)

@ella86: I'm pretty sure it did if it's what I'm thinking of. It was poofy without the hoop skirt but it was so nice not having tulle touch my sweaty legs all night! Could your seamstress make one for you? They look pretty simple to make. Mine cost me about $40
Mine was a crinni with a satin lining so there was no annoying tulle touching your legs. Loved it!
Here is me in the sample and I'm not sure how to make my actual dress poofier. Any suggestions?
It comes with crinoline built in but I really want the full ball gown look.

The model photo, much poofier.

You need a petticoat or hoop skirt. You'd need a really full petticoat to get the look in the picture. Davids bridal sells ball gown and a line zip up petticoats. A friend let me try her ball gown petticoat from there but it was far too much poof. It looks like it might work with your dress though!
@ella86: Thanks I will have to try that and see if it works. I hate spending more money but I really want more volume.
And no my dress isn't already hemmed, in fact I haven't tried MY dress on yet. That dress in the photo is the store sample. :)
My hoop skirt just came in today :) I have the Kendra from Maggie Sottero. my hoop skirt has 4 hflexible hoops and i got it for $25 with shipping from ebay :) i highly recommend a hoop skirt vs. a petticoat. its much more comfortable to walk in and less hot. i tried on my dress with petticoats at the salon and i hated them. Just make sure the hoops are flexible and you wont have any trouble sitting or getting through doors

@Treejewel19: get a hoop skirt! i just received mine from ebay and it cost me grand total of $25 with shipping. the one i ordered is a flexible 4 hoop skirt and i love it. so easy to walk around in :) the hoops are also adjustable so you can size them up to a 140 inch circumfrence on the bottom.
@eeestrad: Thanks! And GORGEOUS dress... Kendra was my runner up. :)
@pfinarffle: Love the poof.
Can someone tell me the difference between 4 and 7 bone hoop skirts, besides the fact that there are more hoops? Is it the more hoops the poofier it is?
@Treejewel19: the main difference is just that the number of hoops. the poofyness of the skirt depends on the circumfrence of the hoops themselves. the skirts with more hoops usually start farther up near the natural waist where as the lower the number of hoops, the more space there is between them. When choosing a skirt, look at the circumfrence of the hoops, that will dictate the poof factor for the dress.
I think the more hoops, the more sturdy and bell shaped it becomes. The 4 hoop has more space in between the hoops making it softer I think.
Yes, you have two things to consider: the diameter of the hoops and the number of hoops.
As someone already said, the diameter = general poof factor. If you want the extreme flared A-line look, go for a skirt with a huge diameter and few hoops. If you want a southern bell look like my dress, or if your dress is made of a heavier material (mine's was satin), then you should get a mega wide diameter and also consider more hoops. It'll give it a more bell-shaped look and help hold the dress off your legs for general maneuverability. I couldn't get around in mine at all until the hoop skirt saved the day!
Also make sure the hoops are flexible. The solid hoops in older hoop skirts are much harder to maneuver because of the risk of the hoops popping up. There are clips about this issue on YouTube. Still do-able, but more difficult.
Glad other ladies are considering the poofier look! Your wedding day is one of the few days in your life where you can totally pull off the poof look. Good luck! :)

Has anyone had the problem of a petticoat being too long? I am only 5'2 and am worried that with a hoop skirt it won't be able to be hemmed up if need be.
Mine's was a little too long (I'm around 5'3"). All we did was pin and sew the space between the bottom two hoops up a little while I had it on under the dress. No big deal.
Mine was a full 4 layered crinoline petticoat, much heavier than the silk dupion dress!
But Im very small so had to fluff the skirt out rather than take up the bottom!
@fhall513: thanks so much!
@ella86: My petticoat was done the same as pfinarffle
I just found mine 2 days ago...I'll post one without the petticoat underneath and one with! This is the sample dress.
Without the petticoat
With a petticoat that has like a billion layers of crinoline! I literally tripped while I was trying to walk around the store LOL! Sorry for the uneven sides...the petticoat was all bunched up when this picture was taken!

I would like to see pictures of real brides who had their ballgowns poofed out as much as the models in the pictures do!
And then I would also like you to tell me what sort of crinoline/hoopskirt you used underneath. Ooh! Pics of that would be even bonusy-er...
