I have not found a single cake topper that I even remotly like. I have no image in my mind of what I would like ... other then nothing!  What do you guys think?  Is it okay to skip the topper?  If you think yes -- can you suggest somewhere to look for them? Online is fine.

I say skip it if you don't like it!  We couldn't find anything we liked, so we'll have flowers on top of the cake, but I could have just as easily gone without anything.  I wouldn't want something just because it's "traditional."  I wanted something we like!

Oooops... I read "can i skip the cake topper?" and voted YES!  (but your question was actually do you need it? = NO!)  We didn't have one, I never even thought about it.

I actually made our cake topper, but otherwise we would have forgone the idea because we found most of them to be hideous or not appropriate for our wedding.

we weren't going to have one either - the cake wasn't a big deal to me. But it turned out a present my then fiance had given me for our dating anniversary (a pretty, modernistic figurine of a man holding a bride in his arms) was also a cake topper! So we used it.

I'm not having a topper - one more thing to overspend on, and the worry about "now what do I do with it?" afterwards...

If you want to pretty-up your cake there are lots of other options - ribbon, fondant/iced decorations, a geometric design in a different colour icing, real flowers, fruits...

I didn't have one.  The bakery just put some fresh flowers up there and it was fine.  I coudn't find anything I liked and I wasn't willing to shell out $$ for something I didn't like.

Skip it!  I'm not entirely sold on having one, either.  I think I'm going to stick with flowers.

It's totally okay to skip it!  A cake topper is another one of those little wedding details that no one notices except for the bride and maybe the groom. :P

I wasn't planning to have one, but I found one I really liked (it's small, not breakable and painted to look like us!!)

I say skip it. If it doesn't bother you, no one else will notice.

I say skip it. If you don't want it, why have it? You can easily use other things (like flowers) instead.

We are just having flowers. I always thought of them as sort of cheesy. Since my fi and I are interracial this makes cake topers look even odder. The bottom line is if you don't want it then you don't have to have it.

Wow!  Thanks for the responses! Sorry I messed a few of you up with the wording -- I would change it but I think that would confuse everyone even more.

Looks like we are skipping the cake topper! Just have to double check with my fiance that he wasn't really hoping for one.  I think we plan to do a simple one or two tiered cake and do cupcakes -- but for some reason the topper was bugging me, I guess it doesn't  need to anymore. (Another thing off the list! :) )

I voted Skip It. We couldn't find one we liked either so we kind of made our own. We're using action figures from one of our favorite TV shows. :) Totally us! :D

I misread the question, too and accidentally voted yes.  I think you could definitely skip it.  We are!  I didn't like cake toppers in gneral, so we're either putting nothing up there, or a few flowers.

oops i clicked the wrong button...i meant YES you can skip it!

im finally reeeally learning that your wedding should be whatever you want it to be. if you dont find a wedding topper that you like, then don't force it! if you feel like topping the cake with your favorite photo of the two of you, or fresh flowers, or nothing at all, more power to you and im sure your wedding will still be great and reflect you and your man's style!!!

Skip it. Unless we find a super cool vintage topper, we probably won't have one.

whoops, also clicked the wrong answer, hehe. anyway, definitely skip it if you can't find anything you like. there's really no need for it, it's just eye candy. now, i DID find a topper i liked =) so we're having one! it's from the small object on etsy and i like that after the wedding, we can display it in our home as a little piece of art and reminder of our wedding day!

Skip it if you don't want it! I'm just using flowers cause I'm not super traditional! But I have friends that used their parents vintage cake topper for 3 wedding and just repainted the little people to fit their style =D It was a great idea and something they loved

I also am skipping the cake topper. I didn't find anything that inspired me...now we aren't even sure that we want cake.

Definitely skip it if you want...actually, my cake maker prefers it when people don't want cake toppers.  She says they can sometimes be very difficult to incorporate into the design.

I guess I'm in the minority here but I think that there are so many fun ones and it can bring some humor to the wedding.

i'm skiping it too because it's hard to incorporate the traditional cpuple to the cake desing... so, flowers will be!

    I mis-read the poll, too!

No one's forcing you to have a cake topper, and no one will notice if you don't have one, either!

Just remember: always do what you feel comfortable with, never do what you feel forced to do.

I also didn't find any cake toppers that I liked that "went" with our wedding, but I didn't want just a plain, flat top on our cake either.... so we had our florist create a little arrangement to sit on top of the cake.  I thought it looked perfect!

Humarock, I'm not big on the cake topper idea myself.  I have one that I'm considering though on etsy.  It's very simple, just the the word love constructed out of metal.  The word is written in this fun cursive writing; and it's quite adorable.

I voted wrongly as well.  No need for a topper.  We're definitely not doing one, though we may put some flowers on our small cutting cake.
