drdeebee:  It’s hard to tell without seeing it on. In the photo is looks quite tight and short and that is the issue for me more than the white..

I’d be fine with this if you wore this to my wedding. I never interpreted the rule as “no white anywhere,” but rather just not a white dress or attire that looks as if it’s trying to upstage the bride (such as a poufy prom dress or a tiara or something).

I think it’s cute. You could also style it in a way that makes it definitively un-bridal, such as adding a belt or a cardigan, casual shoes, and colorful jewelry.

Normally my advice is that if you have to ask, you probably shouldn’t do it.

You’re the exception to this norm. I think that dress is lovely and perfect for a cocktail reception! It’s not a white dress, and FWIW I love the neckline!

It’s fine.. there’s no way you would be confused for the bride in that.

If you are super concerned, you could always go with a matching [navy?] cardigan.

I wore a dress of a similar pattern to a wedding once. I say it’s great. I think, like PPs, the rule is more about not trying to out-do the bride or wear all white. Patterns with other prominent colors are acceptable.

I voted yes. I would have no problem with you wearing that. My rule is don’t show up in jeans and a t shirt.

Looks good and if it comes down to the knee you can wear that thing over and over again! Go for it!

drdeebee:  If it’s a cocktail or evening reception I think it’s perfect. You could put a black shawl over to tone down the white, add black pumps, black jewelry. I don’t think the cut is inappropriate at all. It’s better than strapless.

drdeebee:  I think the dress looks nice. As PPs said, pretty much as lonf as it’s not a white poofy dress you’re good to go. 🙂 Have fun!
