Okay, so the first photo is my engagement ring that FI picked out all by himself. The second is Kate Beckinsales, and the sort of style I’d actually hinted I wanted. Didn’t have to be exact, but I love the modern, layered look she has. I would never switch the 3-stone ring at this point, simply because of the sweet thought and sentiment he put behind it (the 3-stones and “princess” cut all represent things close to me, so it was very well thought out).
I really do love it, the stones and the sentiment. However, I would possibly like to get it reset with a skinnier setting. I’m 5’8″ with big hands, and the current band on this setting is just a tad too thick and looks bulky. It’s also a high setting to make the diamonds more pronounced, but is a little “retro” looking for my taste (See attached photo above)… I just can’t find any examples online and don’t even know if it’s possible? Any bees know, or have you seen anything similar?
Also, he’s insistent on still getting me two slim wedding bands to layer… I just don’t know which ones? Round stones seem to contrast to heavily with my Princess e-ring stones, but I haven’t found a ton of variety with princess cut or anything similar?
if anyone out there can help with one (or both) questions, I’d be ecstatic! We are getting down to the wire now, and I’m at a loss.

And a picture of it actually on my hand… So that you can get a feel for size… The stones look much smaller in my original photo.

Well you could get 2 small princess or french cut bands…however I think a 3-sided pave band would be flattering. The stones are so small in pave that it just all looks sparkly it doesn’t look like “round” versus “square.”

@wntrwhte: ohh! I looked it up and I think you are right about the 3sided pave… Now to track one down to try on.

I’m not a jeweler but it looks like the sides of your ring can be shaved down to make the whole band thinner. It will make your center diamonds stand out more so a band will not sit flush though.

Beautiful ring! A few things I could suggest:
Setting it lower: set the prongs into the band, like mine are. But my biggest diamond is .3 ct, so it may not make a big difference if it’s too big.
Band: I see the one you like has side stones in the band. Mine does too, only mine are channel set princess cuts. Though, the band is quite large and thick because the channel set stones are also rather large 0.05 ct. You could get smaller ones and it would still work.
Wedding band: you can also get a matching channel set band, again with smaller diamonds than is in mine. If you got the smaller diamonds in the band then you could always have multiple bands for stacking. With the size of my band stacking would be ridiculous, but with the very slim bands it would be very nice.
The key thing I like about mine is that all diamonds are princess cut, but I like the shape matchy-matchy :).

Your ring is very pretty! I would talk to a jeweler about shaving down the shank. Here is a band that I think would be gorgeous with your ring, and some great stacking rings! I plan to do thin stacking rings too.

smv22114: I think your original ring is perfect as is….😊

smv22114: i like your ring as is, and I actually have never liked a princess cut ring! I think you COULD shave the sides down, but it looks really proportional the way it is, it looks gorgeous on your hand. Kudos to FI! As for bands, this could really nice:
