I am engaged! I am so excited about being engaged and my ring (it’s wonderful), but it needs to be resized and I am not sure whether it can be!!!
We opted for a band instead of the “traditional” engagement ring. It is not this exact ring, but very similar to this one: http://www.bluenile.com/classic-diamond-platinum-ring_7311
The ring is a size 7, and I need it sized down to a 5.25. I called a few jewelers for estimates and some have said that it might be a problem to size it down that far (my guess is because this might change the structure and cause the diamonds not to fit as well).
Does anyone know whether it can be sized down that much? Has anyone had to size a ring similar to this in the same way?
I am really worried because I love the ring and don’t want to have to return it and get another. The store said they can’t order another in my size, so if it can’t be sized I have to get a completely new ring.

@SweetieStarr: Don’t worry an experienced jeweler should be able to size it down without a problem. The difference is not huge really. I’ve had my rings sized from a size 7 to a size 5.75 without a problem.
Also FYI Blue Nile is excellent with their customer service and they would be able to tell you if that ring in particular can be sized that far down. It depends on how the stones are set, etc. They can tell you for sure if it’s a good idea or not.

It can be sized but I would also worry about the stones becoming loose so make sure you get a really good jeweler to do it

My ring size is a 3.5 so I always have to pay attention to if something can be sized down or not. I have always been told that there is a “3 size rule”, you can size up or size down a ring. So if it is a 7 it was easily be sized down to a 4 or up to a 10.

Thanks for your help. I got the ring sized today and it looks even better than when I got it. I’m so happy!!
Thanks to all.
