I think it’s going to depend on where it hits you on your legs…..you might have to get it shortened to a more flattering length.

I don’t think there’s a rule, and I certainly believe that it will depend on the dress and where it hits you, but as a 5′ person, the idea of a short wedding dress terrifies me! I wouldn’t do it…

I would think if it’s tea length it’s too long, but if it’s around your knees or slightly longer it would be fine.

I think you can, it’s more about the proportion than the actual length.  Of course, you’ll have to have it hemmed, because what’s tea length off the rack will probably be ankle length on someone 5′ tall.  Also, I wouldn’t even consider wearing flats with a tea length dress.  As someone who is also on the petite side (5’3″) I know that a hemline between my knees and ankles + flats makes me look “squat” for lack of a better term 🙂

You may want to go to knee length just to be safe, because it’s a much safer, more flatterring choice.

My SIL is short and she wore a tea length dress.  I tried on the dress and it hit me at a flattering length, but on her it looked like a highwater dress.  It would be fine if it hits at the right spot!

THat dress is very cute and looks very simple to get hemmed!  A crinoline would be super cute!

I’m 5’1″, and wearing a just-past-knee length dress from david’s bridal. It’s the Galina one with the different stripes of satin/organza-y. I am not getting it shortened, as it hits at a good length for me.Then, it’s 4.5″ heels (with some DIY sparkle to match the dress) to try and reasonably close to my FI’s 6’2″ height.

So, I obviously think a shorter dress can work on a shorter person. They do tend to look more casual though. And I kinda like looking little and delicate, and having a short dress kinda emphasizes that, imo. hth.
