So my mom bought her MOB dress last night, it looks great on her, my sister and I really like it (she tried about a dozen). It’s not what she thought she wanted – she wanted short, this is floor length. Our other sister (who wasn’t with us) thinks it’s too dressy for the occasion – and now I’m really worried because she bought it and it’s final sale.
What do you think? Will my mom be too dressed up for my NOT black tie art gallery wedding? (outdoor ceremony) – my mom in the dress

she is the MOB so she should stand out. you say not black tie, but what is the overall atmosphere you are going for. if it is smart casual, then yes, she is overdressed, but if it is cocktail attire, then she will be fine.

I think it’s beautiful! I don’t think it’s too dressy for a MOB dress.

She looks amazing! The only “too dressed up” that I can think of is if she were to wear a wedding dress.

Great dress! Its one of the nicest MOB dresses I’ve seen on here, so tell her to relax. She’ll look perfect.

Your mother looks beautiful, what a great figure! The dress is really pretty, I don’t think it’s too much at all.

She looks amazing!!! I love that choice. I don’t think she’ll be too dressy, and if she feels comfortable and beautiful, that’s all that really matters – wedding days are SUCH long days for the family (my parents had to help clean up afterwards, so my mom was probably in her MOB dress for 14-16 hours) so comfort is a big thing.

@MsGinkgo: My mom had the same insecurity for my brother’s wedding. Her solution was to have the dress hemmed up. She ended up LOVING the result!
That having been said, I think your mom looks FAB, and won’t be overdressed.

@ajillity81: we’re going cocktail – definitely not smart casual (although I’m sure there will be a few underdressed guests, but I don’t really care) The bridesmaids will be in knee length black dresses and the groomsmen in dark grey (I think) tuxes.
@MsMeow: she does looks great – you’d never guess she’s had 4 kids!
@ItWasntMe: she really didn’t want to look MOBish or wear any of the tiered skirt dresses that seem to be very MOB right now.

I love it, she looks great 🙂 I’ve been sending options to my Mom to get ideas, she’s plus sized so it’s not as easy to find something that will flatter her body type, but she is going to be very dressed up for my wedding (also cocktail attire).
Great choice, don’t second guess it. I think it’s perfect 🙂

@nutmeg36: +1, I think hemming it could solve the problem and make it the best of both worlds.
Honestly though, as long as she’s comfortable, then it’s perfect.

I think a MOB could be overdressed, but in this case I don’t think that dress looks overdone at all. I think it’s quite elegant. I personally would not shorten it. I think the length is very classy.

@MsGinkgo: I love it! And after you described the bridesmaids and groomsmen I don’t think she’ll be overdressed at all. I love that dress.
Oh and tell your mom she should be very proud that she looks just like the model does in that dress!
