Okay so let me give you some back story...  My fiance and I really wanted nice rings. They are the one thing from your wedding you take with you forever.

During our long engagement we bought our wedding bands on credit, paid em off.

Then he upgraded my e-ring and we paid it off.  Waaayyy more than we really could have afforded but he wanted me to LOVE it.

My new e-ring didn't match my old wedding band, so now I have two wedding bands!  I'm so LUCKY!  The first one we bought is pretty thick and very sparkly and it stands on its own, and it's special because we bought it together.  The new one we got a discount on and bought from someone we knew..it matches my e-ring, thin pave diamonds.

So as you can imagine, I feel a tad bit guilty (okay thats an understatement) about the fact that he doesn't LOVE his ring..which is what he really wanted for me.  They didn't carry the one we wanted and so we went with the jeweler's advice and ordered one we hadn't seen in person...and so, after all is said and done it's just not what he wants.  I want him to really have what he wants but I can't afford a whole new ring.

His current ring is a two tone gold band with these ridges...I know he prefers it to be flat...  (though he insists he's happy...he's just trying to make me feel better)  The other thing is that I know he'd prefer the inside to be white gold.  He has another ring in white gold maybe we could use for the materials... but how much would the labor cost?  And can they even separate the two toned rings, yellow from white?

Is there any way a jeweler could fix this using at least the same metal we have?  We paid almost 1k for the ring and it would mean a lot for him for it to NOT be a whole new ring...because we picked them out together.  but I really want him to have something that's HIM...and this is just not it.

I know I'm just taking a shot in the dark but hopefully by some chance this might reach someone who can help!

Gold can be remelted and recast into a new ring.

Yes, what you are asking can be done. It will be spendy though. You will need to research jewelers in your area. I would go to a jeweler that has an onsite shop, instead of one that will send the ring away and then sent back.

It would probably be less expensive for you to trade the ring in for another ring that he likes better.

Hmm, all excellent questions (to which I don't know the answers!), but it sounds reasonable that you could reuse the gold from his current ring to make something new. Reusing gold is done all the time. However, it might be more expensive since there are two gold types involved. Still, never say never. Ask a jeweler to find out for sure though.

Can you sell your first wedding band you picked out, so that you can afford the new ring for him?

Jewelers can definitely melt down any rings you have, and if you have enough of the metal you want to use, you should just be paying for labor. My mother has had pieces made for me, my sister and herself out of our Grandmother and Aunt's old jewelry. Try an independent jeweler though, not a chain like Zales or anything,  I do not know if they offer any such services.
