Yeah it would be nice if they could be archived or something, or closed.

sometimes it’s irritating to see a post and then see it’s 6 years old!

bywater :  Agreed! Maybe the search function could be optimized as well! Sometimes I’m looking for something and the top results are 3 – 5 years old. This might be a mistake Newbees are making and why we see so many old threads come back to life.

somathemagical :  the seach feature is the worst… its seems like even if you sort by date theres still old threads listed first. The search results will list a recent date next to a thread and then when you open the thread its 2 years old. Where is that date coming from?!

somathemagical :  this. I’ve looked for an exact thread title that I’d been reading and had to leave, then still couldn’t find it for old threads

The search function is terrible – it is like it ONLY searches ancient threads. Also, I sometimes wonder if reviving old threads is just an accident – I will click on the arrow to go to page 2 but I accidentally click the arrow that goes to the very last page of threads and don’t even notice I’m reading 6 year old threads.

it was one particular person who this morning revived old threads.  i think they did it on purpose.  i flagged the person to notify the admins.

bywater :  i’ve submitted numerous times to the suggestion box that posts after 1 year old are automatically closed and it keeps getting denied.

I totally agree!!!

There should be an auto closed or archived option after a certain amount of time. I was reading through a thread that popped up yesterday in the boards and as I was reading through it I realized it was 7 years old! Obviously I would be no help to OP after 7 years…

I agree with pp that part of the issue is the search function. Its horrible. Sorting by relevance or date makes no difference, still terrible. Auto archived option would be great.

but some thread are over 6 years old, still regularly (at least once per year) become active and are still relivent like the best wedding stories, worst wedding stories, best favor etc… ones and people would genuinly misout on great stories, advice and inseration if they where suddenly locked to archieve

threads like those arent about OPs but about the wedding community as a whole

its also great to see trends move in real time through weddings on threads like those

It does frustrate me when they are 3+ years and people don’t realise and give advice even though the weddings have long since taken place.

You can head over to our Ideas section (link at bottom of site) to vote on for the idea of having threads older than XX automatically closed. I’m pretty sure the idea has already been created over there. 🙂

I might the only one in disagreement. Just because it’s old doesn’t mean it still doesn’t apply to someone today in the same situation. Obviously if others are commenting on them then they are interested in the topic. The OP might not care 6 years later but the bees commenting now obviously feel like they should. I don’t know why it bothers so many people?

bridetobeonjune3 :  Great to be able to see old threads and see what advice was given etc but comments should be disabled. I don’t understand why someone doesn’t just start a new thread.
