I think that its fine to use it, the only people who will remember it is you and your FI and your friends. And their wedding was 4 years ago so I dont think its stepping on ANY toes! Just think about how many songs people use over and over, whether they know each other or not. I am doing "Storybook Love" from The Princess Bride and if my friend used it a month later, I wouldnt care.
Maybe you could thank them for the musical inspiration in the wedding program?
I definitely think it is fine, especially since you've brought it up with them. Who will really even make the connection other than you and them, anyhow? BTW... it's really considerate of you to be concerned about their feelings on this.
I think it's totally fine to use that song! That is a well-known hymn, although I am not familiar with that particular setting. Even if you are drawing your inspiration from them, their wedding was four years ago, it's not like they have permanent dibs on all the things they did! Go ahead and use it happily. Hopefully if they come to your wedding they will enjoy hearing it again because it will remind them of their wedding day...and then you will have that in common! Very sweet.
I think it's alright for you to use as well! Hopefully they'll take it as a compliment and you can definitely thank them for the inspiration!
I don't think it's a big deal. There are only so many songs out there.
I like MrBee's idea. You could thanks them in the program for the inspiration!
I ditto Mr Bee's idea. I think it would be a sweet gesture to thank them for the inspiration. plus if it was me... I think they would be flattered and enjoy your wedding even more because they will reflect on their wonderful memory as well.
I think it's fine to use, plus you did ask and they seemed fine with it.
I think it's totally fine to use the same song as your friends. I like Mr. Bee's idea to give them creative credit in the program. :)
I definitely don't see any problem with as "All Creatures of Our God and Kind" is a very common hymn at weddings. If you feel it will be too similar - you could acknowledge their inspiration in the program - although from what it sounds like, they aren't overly territorial.
I don't think its a big deal, its been quite a while, people probably won't even remember.
I think it's totally fine to use it! How long ago did they get married? To be totally honest... I'm not sure anyone except them will remember what song was used and where!! Heck, I'm using the same song to walk down the aisle as a friend of mine did only last summer!!

I feel sort of silly about this post, but here it is anyway...
In the past four years, we've become very close with our married friends, R & L. They married just before we got to know them, so we were not invited to their wedding. However, L loves to show her wedding video (it is really cute, admittedly, so I enjoy watching it). The processional song edited into the video is the same one we hope to use, David Crowder's version of "All Creatures of Our God and King." We recently asked them if they actually used the song in their wedding - and they did. Yikes! Then we asked if it was okay if we used it anyhow. R, the husband, jokingly said they don't have rights to the song, so we should use it.
All in all, about 4-5 people who attended their wedding will attend ours. Do you think it is okay to use the same song? Is that stepping on their wedding toes too much?
THANKS!
