Bellenga: I do realize how precious freedom and equal rights for women (and everyone else) are. That wasn't the point I was making. If we want to have a conversation about the objectification of women, what equal rights or children's rights are, ect that's cool. But I don't think that's what this post is about.

btw many people consider male circumcision to be mutilation...and it's fairly commonplace in the U.S.. I'm not using this example to justify anything, just pointing out the fact that we all have different practices and what's taboo/immoral/tacky to one group isn't necessarily so to another. No one has to agree, but calling it gross/disgusting/ or making fun of it really doesn't do anything, especially for protecting women's and children's rights...

Agreed to all. I do find this laughable, and I do wish the couple luck, regardless of their age (i knew my fiance was the one at 14....but I waited till I was 20 to marry him) BUT I agree with the many educated brides out there that it is SO sad that the girl is severely undereducated, and clearly forced to use her body as a means to seek acceptance and gain attention. Its hard enough being a "non-traveller" and a college student to not take the easy way out and flaunt your "assets" to get ahead, let alone a young girl in her situation.

I will say that dress is VERY interesting. BUT she would look at my dress and think the same thing. It's AWESOME how we can be so different from each other. If this makes them happy I say GO FOR IT!

As for whomever said some people look at circumcision as male mutilation is spot on. People try and push their beliefs on others just because they think it's the "right thing to do." I believe respecting peoples culture is important. I know a couple personally who had an arranged marriage in India. They're a great couple who love each other dearly. Just because it's not something you're exposed to everyday doesn't make it wrong.
