I guess it would all depend on how big your steps can be. If you go in an try the dress on again, see if they can hike it up to where the flare would go in a properly fitted dress, then see how big of a step you can take. Smooth ballroom dances might not be very easy to do, but the latin ones don't require huge steps. I'd imagine the rhumba or cha cha would be pretty sexy with a mermaid dress. If we hadn't already picked a song in Viennese Waltz tempo, I would have gone with a rhumba. It's the dance of LOVE. ![]()
I just saw the musical Wicked last night, and one of the main cast members wore a mermaid gown in every dance number. She was really dancing a lot! Of course she is a professional, so maybe just practice in your gown beforehand. But just so you know, it IS possible to dance in a mermaid gown.

I just tried on a mermaid style dress (Alvina Valenta 9612) and fell in love with how sexy and classy it looks...but I could barely walk in it!
The sales consultant told me that the skirt would flare from above my knee after alterations (I'm short so the skirt was fitted much lower than appropriate). However, the fitted part at my thighs still seems restrictive.
We met through partner dance so will probably do some real ballroom for our first dance. I'd hoped to only wear one dress for my wedding, but is it impossible to really dance in a mermaid gown?
